Went here and asked how much the lobster was, waitress told me it was $48 reais, which I did find to be a bit cheap. Maybe she meant $48 reías per 100 grams or something like that. We get it for $55 reais per 500 grams in our home country where most things are much more expensive, so didn't seem too odd, even with a restaurant's markup. In any case she said $48 reías.
Got the bill and it was $480 reías, ten times the price!!! And it was probably not even 200 grams worth of meat. My Portuguese isn't perfect, but I know the difference between quarenta e oito, e quatrocentos e oitenta.
Not only that but our food came out at very different times. It was taking a long time for the lobster to come out and we asked if they could please cancel it, because my mother had already had finished her food for a while, which they refused and told use it normally takes 35 minutes for them to cook it (it was more like an hour and it came out cold). The waitress also didn't tell us how long the food would take when we ordered it and even so, the food should come out hot and at the same time.
The house rose was also not great. Nor did they offer any wines by the glass, so you are trapped with a full bottle of wine once you order it.
It has potential to be a very nice place, but the staff need to know the menu and communicate better (I never like to criticize staff, but it was a major shortcoming here), timing of the cooking needs to be improved and they should follow common hospitality standards when they fall short, and they need wines by the glass.
Other than the lobster I actually think the prices are acceptable given that it is a nice location on the beach and 2025 (meaning the sad reality is everything costs 5x what it should everywhere). But if I ask the staff how much something is they should be able to give the correct information.
The rest of the food was quite good, it was just overshadowed by some major...
Read moreI can't believe my family has been hiding this place from me for years!
We usually go straight into the sand, but today we decided to walk a little bit and bumped into this gem which is all the infrastructure I've ever been wanting at the Ipanema beach.
Classico brings a full bar service, with a large enough menu for you to stay either on the sand or under the shade from breakfast until dinner, which is exactly what we did.
The food looked great, but as far as taste goes, it has room for improvement. The quinoa portion on the Poke Bowl was small, and I'm a firm believer that there's no place for tomato in a Hawaiian dish. The cod in the bolinho de balau tasted more like chicken than fish. Your best bet is to order any of the two options of burgers.
The music was on point (no latin music or annoying reggaeton) with mostly house beats on a Saturday, as God almighty intended. The volume went up along with the number of drinks we had, which added a layer of fun.
The bathroom is small, but kept very clean which is a welcomed surprise, considering the place can get crowded.
Try to make a reservation, specially if you want to use the couches on the sand and obviously expect to pay more in comparison to the regular barracks...
Read moreAppalling service. Average food. High prices. The staff on on our visit was headed buy an extremely grumpy, unhelpful waiter who ruined our experience from the beginning. When asked for a real menu rather than the barcode, as we didn’t want to spend international data to read a menu, he said there wasn’t one. I asked for wi-fi in that case, and he said they don’t have wi-fi. Before hand, when we arrived, I’d asked to seat at a round table for six (we were four) and he said no, when I pointed out there was a French table of four at seated at a six round table, he replied that they were allowed because they were ordering lobsters!!! Not sure how he knew what we were ordering or not, but in any case it is just plain ridiculous to offer different tables based on how much you are likely to be spending. Avoid this place at all costs. I didn’t believe all the reviews here mentioning the awful service, now I know it is even worse than what you...
