Excelent...If you are on a diet, and don't mind paying premium for average cuisine.
Long story short: You will have a cheaper and more satisfying experience at Outback or Abraccio (if you are in the mood for pseudo-italian). Seriously, I'm using these brands as examples because the food at Jamie's Italian tastes pretty much like something you'd find in places like these, except for the portions, which are smaller and the presumptuous descriptions of the dishes, which are way over the top. Average per person: $110. Toss in a few extra bucks and you can have an amazing experience at several other restaurants in the neighborhood.
Now the long story...
First of all, I was there by accident. My original plan was to go to Hamburgueria Nacional, but I missed the entrance at Leopoldo Couto street then my wife and her sister saw the huge "Jamie's Italian" sign and they convinced me to try.
Ok now for the dishes.
We ordered a crispy calamari for the appetizer. The dish is ok...Calamari was cut lengthwise (I confess...I was expecting rings) and was very tender, but very greesy! The fried garlic and fresh chillies on top made it a little more interesting...But come on, $29 for like 6 small pieces of seafood is expensive except perhaps in Dubai or Monaco.
Now for the main courses:
I had a (large) super food salad. The salad was ok until I bit a undercooked chickpea, which kind of ruined my experience. If you are on a low carb diet, this salad, despite small, will be satisfying enough because it contains lots of grains and seeds, avocado and some cheese. Price: $39. Not worth it.
My wife had a "fish of the day", which was salmon under mashed potatoes garnished with cherry tomatoes. The salmon cut was small, but tasted fresh and well seasoned, unlike the cherry tomatoes which seemed very ripe and didn't add any accidity to the dish.
My sister in law had a rump steak with oven roasted potatoes. Beef: OK. Potatoes: greesy, not crispy and tasted like low quality olive oil (Galo or worse brands).
Last but not least, desert. The girls ordered some sort of glorified petit gâteau. The description was really awesome with pralines and everything. Then came the dish....The praline was a mere garnish - that don't even come close to a true praline - on top of a, literally, petit piece of dessert. I couldn't help it but laugh...Guys, seriously, you're advertising much more than you are delivering!!! When you say that a praline is part of a dessert, any sane diner will expect MUCH more than a fraction of (apparently raw) crushed almonds. Ohhh and by the way the cake tasted like RAW FLOUR!!!
Before I end this review I would like to say something about the prices of the juices. Latelly I've been to high end restaurants which charge less than $15 for more than 250ml of watermelon juice. Of course you're entitled to charge as much as you like but I don't think it's appropriate for the audience.
PS: at least the service was OK. The waitress was very polite and well trained. When the service is the only good thing you can remember in a meal you know something...
Read moreI love to travel. I have ate all over the world. This place was by far one of the worst culinary experience of my life. The Ceaser salad missed 3 key I ingredients to make it a Cesar salad... it was like eating greens with mayonnaise and no mustard..lemon... no anchovies. They missed half my order... the wine served me was literally LUKE WARM. I had 3 different servers ... no on knew what I ordered... the table next to me had all their steaks totally done wrong... and when I asked for the hostess to call a cab for me.. she told me I needed to just walk to a corner and try to fetch one..... I ended up walking 1.4 kilometers to my place in 5” platforms as there were no taxis.. what is so hard about callling a taxi. The wine reccomended to me was 3x the cost of my food bill. I can afford it.. but .. didn’t need a $200 bottle of wine I was actutallly intimidated into buying. If you serve me a $200 bottle of wine at least let it be cold. Where did you store it? Staff lockers? Every part of this experience was poor.. in fact .. I was one of only 3 tables in a huge restaurant so assume my findings are nothing out of the ordinary.. bad food .... Jamie..., you can put wet clothes on rising brewed and think your are a master but .. you should be terribly ashamed to promote your brand in São Paulo. You may fool of most of your celebrity.. but traveling chefs and food professionals are beyond disgusted. Only a local looking to say they have been there at a Jamie yada yada could ever possibly think that place is good. Absorb the profits of as far away from your original start...
