By far the best vegan food I've had in 20 years of visiting Brazil. Rio's not great for veggies. Sao Paulo is in general far better. But what a find Teva is. It's super expensive by local standards - lunch here cost me literally 5x what I paid in a per-kilo veggie place yesterday - but it's really worth a try. Ambience is cute, service was understated excellence. I had a mushroom crostini appetiser, which was immediately the most technically impressive thing I've eaten in Brazil. I'm not saying it's the best tasting, but it really was extremely well constructed and I enjoyed it a lot. Then the seitan main course was the best seitan I've ever had anywhere - it was perfectly crusted and I couldn't believe how well it was made - in an interesting sauce with kind of a tofu-instead-of-egg fried rice, all of which I enjoyed a lot. But the real piece de resistance was the banoffee dessert, easily the best dessert I've ever had in Brazil. It was like a deconstructed banoffee pie, with warm fried bananas in two styles, a pie crust crumb, two types of sweet sauces, and some sort of ice cream to set it all off. I'm gonna be dreaming of returning just for that dessert for years! As I said, it was super expensive by local standards - but then again, at £26 for three courses and three soft drinks it was far less than I'd pay in a chain restaurant at home in London. Push the boat out, give it a go - and see if you can find better in Brazil, cos I know I haven't! Pros: really well constructed food, outstanding banoffee dessert, efficient service and nice ambience, it's a certified B Corporation for its social and environmental performance Cons: expensive by local standards, automated tip was higher than the usual 10%

A gem in Rio for plant based and no mal diets. Teva is truly a gem in Rio — a plant-based paradise that sets the bar higher than most fine dining restaurants. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere feels warm, elegant, and inviting. The food is simply out of this world. The tofu is unlike anything I’ve ever tasted — it melts on your tongue with such delicate flavor and texture that it completely redefines what tofu can be. The tempeh is another highlight: perfectly crispy, rich, and satisfying in a way that feels both indulgent and nourishing. Every dish is prepared with such creativity and precision that you can sense the passion behind it. The service deserves a special mention. It’s attentive, thoughtful, and genuinely caring — better than in many 5-star restaurants I’ve visited. The staff makes you feel not just welcome, but truly valued. Teva is more than just a restaurant, it’s an experience. If you’re in Rio, whether you’re plant-based or not, this place is a must-visit.

Food was great, many different dishes like yakisoba or wellington with brasilian regional ingredientes but also brasilian regional dishes. Flavors were well balanced and as well the different textures - Creative and very flavorful cooking. As well they had lots of different drinks, like lavander lemonade, home made ginger ale. If that wouldn't be enough, the atmosphere and the service were fantastic. Im learning portuguese and the waiter, William, was very kind and patient. We had a confusion about the dish I ordered, and I didn't want to change it at first ashamed of the food waste and language confusion, and the waiter and in general the service, were very kind to let me know the utmost important thing for them is the satisfaction of the client and without any hard feelings, they brought me the dish I wanted. <3 The atmosphere is a very lush-green chill laid-back atmosphere, funky vibe. Ipanema vibes!!!

Hey everyone I’m from Australia and I’ve been to many great restaurants also hatted restaurants like Quay, Boiler house, Otto, Sake in Sydney to name a few and this place is excellent.

My aunty is a food stylist and master cook / chef and cousin is a chef so from them and my own interest I have experienced and enjoy really above board food and experience from time to time.

Extra points because it’s vegan and I think making food on par with non vegan is a challenge and a half which the chef has risen above the challenge.

Service was excellent. Food was excellent. Cocktails excellent. To be honest for the sake of being unbias with my review and to also make my review legitimate it is maybe more expensive than other restaurants but in my opinion I believe I’d rather pay more for great food, experience and service if not only for a special occasion than pay low or a middle ground price for a average or below of the same.

It’s a small restaurant like most here but the quality more than makes up for that. If you visit Rio Ipanema beach check it out it’s on the expensive end of the spectrum so if you like fine dining and don’t mind spending this is for you but if you are not a person that doesn’t like spending money on good food and dining experience don’t go because you will probably complain no offence intended but just need to make sure that was explained prior to anyone going there. Because this place deserves great reviews, if you think it’s expensive just only go there on special occasions I guess.

My partner and I went there so the bill cost could be divided by two if that makes a difference aswell. 🤙

Cheers Chef and staff.

Earlier I had posted a review to tell that our credit card was fraudulently used soon after we used our Visa card in Rio at this restaurant. We were sure someone at this restaurant had copied our credit card and chip information because they inserted into two different card readers. Daniel Biron, the restaurant owner has called us 3-4 times and has convinced me that his employees were not the ones who stole my credit card information. He is still looking into if the credit card reader company’s system compromised my card. After numerous calls and over an hour of conversation I am Impressed by Daniel’s sincerity and honesty. I think people at Teva are very customer oriented any want their customers to be fully satisfied. Daniel will continue to follow-up with his credit card reader company as to why my card was inserted in two separate readers and if that led to compromising my credit card. I give Teva team a 5 Star on their sincerity and deligent follow-up with the credit card issue. However, their food and the pina colada were not what I expected. I am giving them an overall rating of 4 Star because after my wife’s and my discussions with Daniel, I know they want to continually improve and innovate their dishes to provide their customers with a memorable...
