If Fellini were shooting a movie in Sofia, you can bet your last lire he’d wrap the day at Piatto Collezione—a place where art, flavor, and the very essence of la dolce vita are lovingly folded into every slice.

The pizza? A masterpiece. The pepperoni sings like a tenor at La Scala—crispy on the edges, rich with umami, and perfectly cradled on a blistered Neapolitan-style crust that would make a Neapolitan weep tears of joy. Even the char is poetic—like a love letter written in fire.

But this place is more than just pizza. It’s where Italy meets Bulgaria in the most elegant handshake imaginable. The staff wear uniforms with the pride of nations stitched right over their hearts. You can almost hear the murmurs of Bulgakov and Pasolini in the air, debating the soul of modern man between sips of espresso and bites of focaccia.

As the name says, this place is absolutely covered in plates! It's probably the largest collection of beautiful, highly decorated and designed plates I've ever seen, outside of a museum, and that's just the background for the wonderful culinary experience this place delivers.

A modest menu offers excellent Italian dishes and flavors. We loved the goat cheese with green figs, and the cream steak. The chef here really knows how to cook a steak, and it was the first time in many years that we got a text-book medium-rare, which was very delicious. The Triple Chocolate dessert (cake) was the least impressive part of the dinner, but we will be sure to check the rest and update the review accordingly.

It's worth checking with the restaurant in advance, as they sometimes have live music performances. (A mix of jazz and pop covers a la Postmodern Jukebox.)

The service was impeccable, with a staff that went above and beyond to ensure every aspect of the dining experience was just right. But what truly stole the show was the food. Each dish was a delightful masterpiece, bursting with authentic Italian flavors. I started with an amazing Caesars salad, which was a tantalizing preview of what was to come.
