Captain Cook Varna — Restaurant in Varna

Terrible. I wish I read those one-star reviews before we booked a table for a dinner at this terrible place. After a two days ahead reservation we were given a table inside in the corner when the restaurant was 15% full. We asked for a table closer to the terrace (not even on the terrace) with some more air amid Covid19 pandemic when no one from the staff wore face masks. The manager Emil Popov told us that everything is booked and he can’t give us any of all the other empty tables. The time was 20:30, and I questioned the fact that those tables would get full but he very rudely suggested to leave the restaurant or take the table in the corner. Since it was late in the night we did not want to look for another place and we decided to sit. Few moments later we realized that people were smoking cigarettes inside. This is illegal in Bulgaria. When we complained to the waiter he explained that some people are more important than other people in this place and they are allowed to smoke cigarettes. After all we were prepared to spend a lot of money at this place, we decided to only order salad and a main dish. The food was average and too expensive for Bulgarian standards. When we left the restaurant one hour later half the tables in the restaurant were still empty, but we had to spend the night in the corner among cigarette smoke because the restaurant manager was keeping the other tables for potential guest without...

Awful service from our main waitress. She seemed angry at us for entering and eating with them.

1. They provided us with 3 books of menus and she came to us 3 times in the next minute and when we said that we need more time, the response was a deep breath of exhaustion

2. We ordered wine and she spilled half of it on the table when pouring it after every sip we had

3. I can’t stress enough the poor execution of the salad I ordered. I ordered a salad “Pink Tomatoes with Buffalo cheese”…. I received chunks of cucumber and big chunks of rock hard tomatoes with no dressing or any seasoning.

4. I ordered the chicken which was ok in terms of taste but looked like a yellow splash on a white plate

Frankly, I felt like a complete fool for paying for such a public humiliation from this waitress (dark hair with a small pony tail). I wish I noted down her name and raised a complaint for the complete disrespect and rudeness I received. I really hope the manager of this restaurant will read my comments and have a word with the lady because if I received a good service but still bad food, I wouldn’t have complained but receiving heavy sigh of exhaustion from us (without doing anything wrong) and not even looking at us when she speaks, like I stole her dinner, is completely unacceptable for someone who is working in...

6 years ago I went to celebrate an occasion with my family of 6. I have a small child. The „ladies“ behind our table (clearly known to the staff and I can only assume may also be „serving“ the higher „echelons“ of Varna) smoked cigarettes like their lives depend on it. Inside the restaurant. I raised it then immediately, but was told by the „manager“ that there is an open door to the balcony so that is enough. We left after salads ….we didn’t want to stay a moment longer. I thought after all this time things have changed. Turns out not an iota Shocking, truly shocking. Problem is, people in Bulgaria smoke, behause as it seems the news about cancer has not reached their unsharpened brains yet. AND the restaurant serves to the masses. Who cares about me and my little child ?! , wanting to eat decent (highly priced) food without fumes of cigarettes? Clearly Capitan Cook does not, referencing the other comments raising the very same issue. Sad to say, but in Bulgaria you can s@@t on table, but as long as you leave good tip, the owners will applause and welcome you back.
