Himalayan Kitchen — Restaurant in Siem Reap

I am usually very considerate when writing a review on a restaurant. But looking at the 4.5+ rating on Google for this restaurant and having personally tasted the food, I feel I should write an honest review.

(1). Did not serve water. Had to literally wait and request. Maybe they expect us to purchase water. It's not about money, but customer service. (2). Did not confirm the spice level. Especially when there is a kid seated with us. (3). The Dal never tasted like one!! Or we were not told that it was not Dal ! (4). The paneer in the paalak paneer never tasted like paneer. They tasted like cheese balls and that ruins the entire dish. (5). From the photos posted by many others And what was served to us, I can infer that the veg thaali consists of the same contents daily. I would expect some level of perfection if that's the case.

What an incredible chance find walking back to our guesthouse. Ordered an eggplant masala and some naan as takeout for lunch and was blown away by the balance, texture and depth of flavor in this simple dish. Hands down the best Indian restaurant in town. We've sampled all the Indian establishments in Siem Reap, all of them decent to very good but Sam's freshly ground masala makes all the difference and clearly separates this restaurant from the rest of the pack. Simply on another level. We went back that same day for a sit down dinner and ordered samosas and aloo chop for starters, a lentil dal, lentil soup, garlic naans and aloo gobi for mains and a couple of lassis to drink .
