Coming into the cafe after a two-hour walk, I tell the man at the cash that I'll be ordering something, but I ask to have a cup of tap water and to use their washroom before. My partner and I had worked up a thirst from walking through the forest on a sunny day.
He says... "No, sorry, this is a small local business, I cannot just give you water."
I was going to order a macchiato and my partner was going to order a nice peach drink, but not until after I emptied my bowels (TMI?). He didn't understand.
Next time someone asks for a glass of water on a SUNNY DAY, give it to them. It's water.

Read moreWe came in with a group of seven, two were in wheelchairs. We were not made to feel welcome at all. In fact before we even sat down we were asked how long we were going to stay. I asked if there was a problem and was told that they always ask. I have personally never been asked how long I was going to stay in any store, restaurant, public establishment of any type. We were a quiet well-behaved group and were definitely not taking up prime real estate as there were very few people in the cafe and plenty of empty tables and space to go around.
