The chef/ cooks of the restaurant are despicable. It is supposed to be a South Indian Cusine restaurant and they donot know how to cook. This is not the first time when i ordered and found the food distasteful and non-edible ( as per the trational taste of south Indian cusine). The Sambar on all occassions was Saltless, not having any daal in it not cooked with Tangy Tamarind - not tasteful. The Potato masal filling also lacked salt and the required spices and looked like not fresh. The Dips of Coconut chutney was also bland with no taste except for a watery mixture of ground Coconut. The staff even though pleasent speaking dud not know the basics of customer service. She would call the manager on the phone nor give the name & contact of the owner. The owner has not been in the facility to run his/her business, so who knows how the quality of the food is managed. No one returned my call or attented to the complaint. I will never again pick food from Southern Spice. If you are in Abbotsford, BC my recommendations are not to even try this place. If it was only once, I would have let it pass but it has been so for four consecutive times.
ABSOLUTELY NO TO THIS RESTAURANT IF YOU WANT TO EAT AUTHENTIC...
Read moreWe went in on a Saturday for dinner..restaurant was almost fully occupied..we had to wait for 20 min to get a table …i noticed they had only one person for front of the house who was running around serving all tables and trying to attend calls and customers at the counter…knew that service was going to be delayed from the get go so I can’t blame the server but the owner or manager is responsible more than anyone…as for the food we ordered for dosa,Vada, idli ,Malabar parathas ,chicken curry and Biryani.Idli was not up to standard had and dry on the sides…dosas were not bad but the sambar and chutneys need a lot of improvement …the chicken curry and Malabar paratha were delicious …the mutton Biryani on the other hand was a complete letdown..I have never had a biryani as sweet as the one here and a strong aftertaste of aromat seasoning.I am a big admirer of South Indian style biryani but this one just b failed to hit the mark…I just think they need to work smarter on the service end and refine the food standard to stand stronger...
Read more6 out of 5 stars! A pleasant surprise for me and my coworkers! Best butter chicken ever had. I’d never had Dosa before and was delicious, yet lighter on the gut (and gluten free). Between us, we tried Mansala (veggie, not spicy), Vindaloo (mid-spicy, more oily), and butter chicken (low-spice, veggie and chicken) dosa. All excellent! And nice and big and buttery and tasty. With tomato chutney and coconut chutney - that was my coworker’s fav bit! I’d never had anything like it. We couldn’t stop commenting on the food the entire time we ate. Price, inexpensive for the portion and taste; they could charge more. The service was very sweet and kind, she took time to answer our many questions and explain some of the entrées. The only down sides is the space is open and simple (not cozy) and a bit drafty, so my food got cold quickly. I’m for sure going back with...
