I just rolled into town from Edmonton with my mom and my aunt. We're staying at the Windtower and I was looking for something close by for dinner. We walked into the Mineshaft at 8pm on Tuesday. It closes at 9 so we thought we were good for time. We sat ourselves and waited for service while the bar at the bar cleaned glasses. It wasn't particularly busy. Another group strolled in and they were eyeing up a dirty table. And that's when the lady at the bar said very loudly and rudely "I am NOT serving any more" we sat there in disbelief since we've never witnessed this kind of customer service. We sat there for 20 mins and we're refused service. It wasn't particularly busy. There was 2 tables and the one other table was only drinking. Why keep the door open if you're refusing to serve people??? For the entire 20 mins while we waited all she did was clean and put away for glasses. I had to leave and run back to my car at the Windtower since my mom and aunt both in their 70s were famished from the travel and couldn't make the walk back. We ended up going to Patrinos where there were 2 waitress with 10 tables between them making loads of tips serving amazing pizza and beer. I highly recommend going to any other place in town other than the Mineshaft due to rude and poor...
Read moreWe mistakenly stopped here to eat as we were wondering around Canmore. As other reviewers noted, the atmosphere is plain and certainly geared towards the patrons of the residence. Walked in and sat down. One waitress came over 5minutes later, didn’t say hello and threw one drink menu and one food menu on the table ( for a table of four) and walked away. As we considered our order we overheard several other patrons complain to the waitress about their food (e.g. cold, tough & microwaved too long, etc.). The response of the waitress who gave us our menus was a long the lines of “well then I’ll eat it”. We waited a while for someone to come and take our order. Another waitress did come and apologized for the delay. She was great and seemed to be the only one who cared about doing her job. We ordered and while we waited, our original waitress complained about the amount of dirt/dust on the blinds. Food came and 3 out of 4 meals were decent. The seafood linguini wasn’t worth even the $10 special price. Will not go back. I’m pretty easy going but when in Canmore I enjoy having great food, a nice atmosphere and good service. Outside of the waitress that took our order and served food, this...
Read moreThis place is such a hidden gem in Canmore!
Compared to other places with similar pub style food in the area, Mineshaft is super affordable. I think its lovely that it is connected to the retirement home and that the retirement home residents can meet with their friends and family here. It always brings a smile to my face when I come in and see the older folks enjoying live music or watching sports with a beer since so many seniors suffer from isolation in our society.
This is a great place to go for a family dinner or to see a local musician play! Unlike so many places in Canmore, it doesn't feel like they're just trying to impress tourists. I like to come here earlier in the day and do computer work with a side of french fries as it is way less pretentious, snobby, expensive and busy than every coffee shop in Canmore.
My only wish is that they had more vegan/plant based options on the menu, but the servers are always willing to accomodate when I ask for truffle fries without the cheese. I'll give 5 stars if they get a vegan black bean burger on the...
