My aunt had previously enjoyed several positive experiences at One Eyed Jack, so we were looking forward to our family meal. Unfortunately, this visit was a major disappointment.

The noise level upon entering was overwhelming, like walking into a concert. We requested a quiet booth, but were seated at a half booth despite numerous empty full booths. The 15-page menu was immediately concerning, suggesting a lack of focus on quality.

I ordered the Beef Stuffed Yorkshire, my aunt the Shepherd's Pie (no cheese, creamy coleslaw), and my mother the Loaded Brussel Sprouts. My aunt's Shepherd's Pie arrived covered in cheese, and her coleslaw was an oily, non-creamy version. My Beef Stuffed Yorkshire was average at best, with the fries being the highlight (crispy and fluffy). The beef itself was low-quality, full of fat and connective tissue. My mother's Loaded Brussel Sprouts were extremely dry, undercooked, and lacked the advertised spring onions. She struggled to finish them.

When my aunt raised the issue with the server, she received a somewhat apologetic response and an offer to remake the Shepherd's Pie. However, there was no offer to comp any portion of the bill, despite my aunt having to wait while the rest of us ate.

The atmosphere at One Eyed Jack is confusing. The modern decor suggests an upscale dining experience, but the walls are covered in gaudy sports memorabilia, and numerous TVs play sports throughout the restaurant. It feels like the restaurant is having an identity crisis. Is it a restaurant or a sports bar?

With average, low-quality food and minimal service, I won't be returning to One Eyed Jack to see if they ever...

Full out honest review. The place is very pretty coming in. It's like a fancy Jackastors with a huge extensive menu. Regrettably that's where it ends. It took awhile for us to be served or even offered drinks. The 10 steps of service stopped after our appetizers came. Our table was never cleared after we finished our apps. Even drink glasses that were empty not cleared after we received our refills. The runner who ran our mains out could have cleared the table, he did eye the empty plates but just walked away. So we ate with a table full of dirty dishes.

The food was hit and miss. The lasagna fritti was good, the calamari was not. I had probably 3 jalepenos in the whole mix and just alot of green and red bell peppers. My Calamari came out hot but was over cooked and the breading on it was soggy. That happens when you over crowd your fryer especially when you fry fresh oversized pepper with the calamari. Butter chicken was sweet and with no spice, tasted like it was manufactured. It wasn't the worst but it wasn't butter chicken. Steak, was tender but it looked like it was tossed in boiling water and then grilled. You can tell based on the colour's of inside and out that it was boiled before grilled. May I also add it was flavorless, semi caramelized onions were not enough to mask the taste. Mashed potato was old and either re steamed or microwaved. The texture definitely says re warmed on a steam table from cold. Vegetables were definitely fresh and actually good. We did not stay for desserts.

Though we had a bad experience this time, it does not mean we will not come back...

This was our third time at the Barrie location in as many weeks, having been to both the Kingston and Uxbridge locations in the past. It was my first time for lunch at any location, as we have always gone for dinner. Janine was our server and did a fantastic job of ensuring our order was accurate. Throughout our experience, she was competent, personable and attentive. As a server, our goal is always to ensure that each individual and table feels catered to and Janine was successful in this endeavour. The food was well-paced and hot from the kitchen. I have NEVER had anything other than a delicious meal from One Eyed Jack - and have tried many, many dishes. This time, I ordered one that I had not eaten before: The Tapas Grill. It was perfect! Our Top 5 things that we enjoy about One Eyed Jack (in no particular order) are the prices, the portion sizes, the service, the ambience and the food quality. It has been consistent at all three locations. We were also happy to see their daily specials. Price points really do influence the ability and willingness to dine out/get carryout these days and it's important that these are manageable for all budgets. One Eyed Jack definitely has the market on treating yourself while maintaining a conscious spending plan. I would say that the only thing about this location is - while central and with lots of parking (you may need to walk a bit, but it's free and there is plenty of it in this large strip mall), it will not accommodate a patio and there would be no view, even if there was one. However, in Canada, our patio season is so...

This newly renovated space, in a neighbourhood plaza with plenty of free parking and easy accessibility has an industrial vibe, high ceilings, and contains many booths…each with a media screen. There appeared to be split-focus seating: dining to the right, pub grub to the left, as you come in. We visited around “brunch” time on a Saturday, shortly after opening. It’s always a good thing when exiting patrons have a smile on their face and tell you (as they hold the door for you), “you’re gonna love it…try the beef dip or the wrap and onion rings!” Three things: 1. The menu offers ANY food item you can possibly think of…it has to be 20 pages (largest menu I’ve ever seen) in length - so you can safely assume anyone in your group will find something palatable; 2. The portions are HUGE. If you have a hunger on, go ahead and dig in. Otherwise you might want to share a plate; and 3. I make apologies for a lower service score, because of the packed-out lunch crowd, the warm welcome by our host, and the realization our waitress was managing more than one large table of 8, in our section. I’ve included some photos. I think you’ll like it here. Be prepared (because of the tabletop screens and large screens) that if you arrive on game day or when a sports event is televised, it could get loud. But a friendly, easy kinda loud, because of the mix of families and groups. It will be interesting to see if they keep such a large menu, over time.
