Zio's Italian Comfort Food — Restaurant in Barrie

Last evening my husband & had our weekly date night and wanted to try something new. I have driven by this restaurant several times and was excited to try. We arrived around 6:30 PM and when we entered we saw we would be the only people in the restaurant. I was partly excited because I was looking forward to a quiet evening. The moment we entered the server looked absolutely annoyed. She side heavily, Grab the menus and just walked towards a table, she didn’t even say hello, or welcome or follow me. She put the menus down walked away before we even sat down and said she’ll be back shortly. Her tone was annoyed and rude. Again never greeting us. We did not feel welcome and felt like a big inconvenience just being there. We did not stay as I did not want to spend a date night and $$$ being treated rudely and not welcome. I reached out to this hidden gem of a restaurant to see if they could cater/host a family gathering of up to 30 people for lunch after a funeral service on the family day stat holiday.

Giancarlo & Brandy even though it should have been a day off for them, chose to open their kitchen for us and catered our family gathering and was very reasonably priced. When a restaurant could have over charge, they did not.

The food was delicious, the pizza, pasta and salad kept coming out and it was all very tasty and amazing. Their homemade Cesar dressing has got to be the best hands down especially if you love garlic.

The atmosphere was very comforting, the Italian music was soothing, there was plenty of room and overall the experience was amazing.

My favourite part of their food is their tomato sauce. It has such a great balance of flavours and it complemented the appetizers so well as well as the pasta. The food was great and flavourful. The food was however a bit warm instead of hot but I think it's because they wanted to serve both plates at the same time so one cooled down a bit. The portions on the other hand are so big. For around 10$, the portions are as big as some full meals from other restaurants. The main courses are also only around 25$ and they were quite generous in the toppings as well.
