I grew up in Burlington and Clarke's was a very well known bakery with delicious baked goods. I have now moved to another city and the past 2 times I returned to Burlington in the past 2 months, I stopped at Clarke's. I do not know what has changed, but the bakery has gone completely downhill.
The bread was dry and crumbly. Their signature smiley face cookies had a weird taste (bad enough my son took 2 bites and didn't want it anymore). The butter tarts were absolutely disgusting- the shell tasted like onion and the filling had no taste. The chocolate coconut bar I brought home for my husband had multiple long hairs baked into it.

I do so every end of school year as a gift for my daughter’s teachers, principal and secretary ( as well as gifts for them at Christmas with their seasonal specialty cookies, too)… this year they were lovely, as usual, and I finally remembered to leave a review. The customer service is amazing and the quality and designs of my custom school-themed cookies are fantastic and I couldn’t be more pleased. Read moreWent there today in search of an empire cookie, was told they were sold out. Instead I bought a couple of fern tarts, cinnamon rolls, and a Napoleon cupcake. The cupcake didn't have a label, so I had to ask what it was (a vanilla cupcake encircled with raspberry jam and topped with whipped cream). That was delicious, but very messy to eat.
