2024 UPDATE: potatoes are still literally SWIMMING in oil. I refused those the second they hit the table. Waffles are raw inside. Coffee still good. Turkey bacon was still gobbling and so greasy I can't imagine anyone would survive digestion. Really, I don't think the cooks here cook food they would want to eat and I don't think they know HOW to cook. Our server was a lovely and cute young lady who took excellent care of us so there's that going for them but that doesn't make me want to pay for bad food. 2023 UPDATE: honestly I don't know what to say. My potatoes were the consistency of chunky snot, both undercooked and greasy enough to kill a man. They were so bad I spit them out on the plate immediately.
I informed the serving staff and let them know I had no desire to have someone try again at this extreme a failure (who can't cook potatoes properly? Are they ok? Do they need supervision?). She didn't acknowledge I existed, just walked away without a word. Now I rarely go out and even rarer still complain unless it's this egregious but I've never experienced that, such cold disregard. I mean at least LOOK at the food and say SOMETHING - even cussing me out would be better than turning like you had just been looking at a lamp post and walking away. The server wasn't new, either, I recognized her from our pre-pandemic visits.
At the end of the meal, when I could find someone who would actually make eye contact and acknowledge I existed, I was informed after asking for the bill that the potatoes were "new" and that's why they're disgusting greasy balls of chunky snot. Though this is possibly the dumbest thing I can imagine hearing as an explanation I just paid the bill and left for the last time, however...
This raises many questions: If by "new" you mean that they're a new kind of potato that you have never ordered before then please please PLEASE throw them all in the trash and never order them again and go back and cry to whoever you used to give you whatever you used to get and demand that you get it again.
If by "new" you mean that they were just freshly cooked then this raises even more questions. For example, how "old" were the potatoes that I used to get? If these were fresh and the only problem was that somebody didn't cook them beyond the consistency of chunky snot then why didn't they just cook them properly?! My kids even noticed visually and they're bloody KIDS! How did this get grabbed and delivered from the pass? Doesn't anyone look quickly then inform the staff, "hey, idiot, they'd like this to not be so insanely unappealing, put your phone down and do your job!"
I hate to belabor the point further. It's just so insanely disappointing when a consistently good restaurant can't be bothered to cook the fried potatoes properly.
Oh well, fail until you go bankrupt and maybe the next place will care enough to serve decent food.
Old review, used to love this place when they had it together:
The kids loved the food, the server was an exceptionally friendly lady who went out of her way to make sure I never ran out of coffee.
We'll be frequenting this location moving forward and I really hope the same lady will...
Read moreWe visited this location last Sunday morning for breakfast for the first time. Based on my experience at other Sunset Grill locations (Burlington -2, Mississauga-1, Oakville -1), I was looking forward to a consistently very good breakfast and service. We were seated promptly and the server offered my 3 year old a colouring book, which I appreciated. After placing our order we waited 40 minutes without any food. When a table of 4 beside who had arrived 15 minutes after us received their food before us, that was enough. I walked to the cash to pay for the coffees and to say that we were leaving. I was told by a young girl that there would be no charge and received an apology, but when I asked what's going on here versus other locations, I received no reply. Just a guess, but I saw no leadership at this location. Food was sitting under the warmers too long, the staff are all young and there didn't seem to be anyone in charge. Timing is critical with toddlers in terms of meals and naps, and we stopped here so that we could keep our son on his schedule. We ended up at Tim's across the street trying to keep our son awake while we fed him. We won't be back to...
Read more*Newest update on 2024/07/28 Finally got a time to go back with my family today. The friendly and clearly service was wonderful! They had really refunded me as well as treated me as the owner provided before. It seems not many brunches nearby if you’re looking for one this is a good choice to go.😊
*Updated
The owner had replied with apologies and explained that the staff mistakenly counted one more coffee to my bill so caused the wrong amount and didn’t do it intentionally and said they will try to avoid it happening again. They’re also willing to refund to me and provide some compensation. So I think I’ll find sometime to go back and for now I’m revising my review first.
Had brunch with a friend there yesterday. And after we left I found I was charged more than I have ordered. Just several dollars more so I won’t waste my time to go back to argue for it. But we’ll never go back to this dishonest restaurant. Very unhappy to be cheated.😠
Be sure to ask for order details when paying your bill. We didn’t get the order sheet and just tap our cards at the machine as asked. And I think that’s why...
