Tried this Galbi metrotown location after seeing the New Westminster location offered $35/pp AYCE. Unfortunately this location does not offer AYCE, but let's break down the experience anyhow.
Food - Portion is small. We ordered marinaded short ribs ($48 cad each, we ordered 2 portions) + marinaged rib fingers ($38 each, ordered 1 portion) while the marinade was tasty and meat was fresh, they were all really small portion compared to other restaurants. One portion of meat (4 slices) barely enough for a family of 4 adults + 2 kids. 3/5
No rice included, we had to order 3 orders of rice too, generally Korean restaurants with $40+ per entree price would have side dishes + rice + soup. Rice is not included here and we had to order 3 bowls separately.
Side dishes very limited. They offered 5 side dish options, but only bean sprouts was not spicy, everything else from the onions, to the radish or the kimchi were super spicy. And not as good as restaurants like Kook. 1/5
Soup was BLAND. We ordered the Ox Bone soup too and salt was given to us on the side. Even when we dumped the whole thing of salt in there, still was really watery and not tasty. My kids commented that even Super Thai hot pot or Big Way hot pot had better pork bone soup then them, and this is a Korean restaurant :( 1/5
Seafood pancake was really starchy :( Another fail, the seafood pancake was not crispy, the seafood wasn't yummy and just overall at most 2/5.
Lastly, the table was super tight, kept kicking my knee at the stove and I am not even the tall husband. Just ovefall not the atmosphere you'd like eating out :( 1/5
Overall, with 3 meat dishes, 1 soup add on, 1 seafood pancake, leaving still hungry. A family of 4 adults and 3 kids was over $220 CAD (15% gratuity enforced) (Basically $31 per person, including the kids, you can easily get AYCE at some restaurant with that price) We left hungry, the food wasn't delicious, not a great deal nor good quality, so would not...
Read moreWe came in a larger group of 8. They told us during reservations that there's a higher tip for large group, which we were okay with. But they didn't tell us there are no tables big enough for 8 people...The most you can fit 6 at a table. We had to sit separated and the tables are far enough so we couldn't chat. Man it was a bit loud in there so we couldn't even hear our own table with 4 people lol. So we had two tables and two bills. It just felt like two separate groups anyways and nothing really made it felt like we are one group. So we don't get why we had to pay such high tips?
For service, in general it was okay, they just forgot to turn on the BBQ at our table and they forgot to pull the vent down for the other table. lol else it's fine. Not much of a problem there.
Food was okay. Ever sauce is spicy. I know Korean food is spicy but I didn't expect every sauce is Spicy... even the sauce with the seafood pancake was spicy! I asked if there were any other sauce and they said no... lol Sorry but consider there are so many other Korean BBQ restaurants. I would prefer not to go here again. Nothing really stands out.
The amount of meat you get for $45+tax is 4 small strips of beef. and $20 + tax for 3 pork steak. They require us to order two bbq meat per table. To be fair, the meat was good but as mentioned above, not the best, just not bad.
Anyways thats all I will say about this. Overall...
Food: Not too bad, but doesn't really stand out. Service: It was okay, but charged unreasonable amount of tips. Prices: Expensive for the...
Read moreThe portion of marinated ribs for two people was about the same as a single portion at other korean barbecue restaurants. The meat was too thin for the price. In other restaurants, the ribs are larger and thicker. Also, I had to pay bowl of rice because it didn’t come with it. Additionally, when I asked about the rice I ordered because it had a strange smell, I was told it was freshly cooked that day. However, the smell was off-putting, and the rice was dried and not well-cooked. When I asked again if it was really fresh rice, the staff quickly replaced it, but it still had the same unpleasant smell, making it uncomfortable to eat. It was the first time I experienced this type of unpleasant rice in any Korean restaurant. It felt like they had given me leftover rice from the previous day. The young waitress was friendly, but the older female server's response when I mentioned the smell of the rice was unpleasant. After that, I decided to go to another korean barbecue restaurant further away. While the side dishes were clean and tasty, the small portion of meat and the rice made me decide I wouldn't be returning...
