Onggi Korean Cuisine 옹기 밴쿠버(Best Price on Website!) — Restaurant in Burnaby

I called to make reservation a day in advance, so I made sure my family and I got a table for dinner without waiting. I saw people who did not make reservations had to wait at the door.

We got a table at 6pm and ordered our food. The food did not arrive until 6:45pm! The wait time for the food was quite long! I believe the kitchen is small and/or they don’t have enough chefs or staff to work in the kitchen.

A couple of servers ran around and took care of all orders and customers. They were quite busy. A server gave us water and poured it in to a small stainless steel cup for each of us, but the portion was very small and we finished drinking quickly. We didn’t have a kettle or jar of water or tea that we could serve ourselves. We had to wait for a server to pour water for us. They should improve their efficiency by giving each table a jar of water or tea, so customers could help themselves to get some water. Agreed??

The food was good. We ordered a spicy squid combo, mackerel combo and bimibap with beef. The portion of each dish was quite big. We had to pack some leftovers home. The presentation of each dish looked great. The only thing I would say was the side dishes. There were a very small dish of bean sprouts, a small dish of kimchi and a small dish of soy sauce potatoes. We had a table of four people. All these side dishes were the same size of the ones that a table of two people got. If we had four people, should we get a bit more? I total understand that we could ask for refill but the restaurant should have thought of the portion of how much of the side dishes they should give to a table of two, four, six or more people.

I would love to come back and try their lunch special indeed. They have a really fancy photo online to show this special lunch that comes with many different things. I look forward...

This is our go to Korean Cuisine. Our kids love this Korean Cuisine and their food. Always ask to go to Onggi. I gave it 5 Stars 5 months ago but decided to give it 3 Stars this time. This is still our favourite Korean Cuisine. I gave it 3 Stars because there was a hair in the Dakkalguksu (Noodles in chicken broth topped with seasoned chicken). We ordered 2 Dakkalguksu, 1 for me and 1 for my son. This is our favourite dish. And still is. My son couldn't finish his so I finished for him. There's only about 1/4 left. After 2 bites, there was this long string stuck in my teeth. I thought it was a long shredded piece of chicken but found it odd because it won't break. I pulled it out of my teeth and it was this long black hair. My wife was already at the front counter paying the bill. I showed the hair to one of the waitresses and she brought it to the kitchen with a disgusted look. The waitresses were very concern, apologetic and empathetic. By the look in their faces, they were disgusted and grossed out just like me. I waited to see what they will do since we already paid our bill. I gave it 3 Stars because all they did was gave me a can of Coke. I'm not that type of person to complain and to start a conflict. But I do think they can do better because it is such a big health concern. They should have approached their manager and offer to take care of the Dakkalguksu. Or even both. Who knows, they might have cooked that hair in the same pot. In my opinion, they should have taken care of the customer better. Most Asian restaurants food is good but lack of customer service. Because I like this Cuisine and the waitresses are nice, I have decided not to give it a 1 Star. Things happen but can be...

This place just open for two months. However, they are quite busy even on weekdays. I heard they have lunch special box, however I decided not to try them due to personal reason.

Anyway here are the reviews for the food that I ordered. STIR-FRIED SQUID AND PORK BELLY This food comes with five rice balls and also soup on the side. The rice balls itself was seasoned with sesame and other things 😂 (I don’t know what they are). Overall this one is good and worth the money! They cooked the pork belly as how I cook mine at home which is little bit crispy. Squid was cooked perfectly. Portions for this is quite big for me.

DOLSOT BIBIMBAP Another big portions 😂 lots of filling and beef. However too much sesame oil for this one, but other than that everything is perfect!

SEAFOOD SOON DU-BU JJIGAE This is the least favourite from what I ordered. When I taste them at the first time, I was thinking maybe I should order the beef one. It just too much squid inside, maybe I already “full” from the spicy squid. It just need more seasoning in my opinion, I just added the kimchi side dish on mine and it taste better. In addition to that, I feel the pot itself is not hot enough. and I prefer if they serve the egg on the side, instead of crack and put it in inside the soup. You never know if someone has allergy and forget to mention that (just in case).

Overall side dishes are good, love their kimchi a lot. I think they are little bit short staff, I only saw 2ppl working. One little thing is they don’t really walk around to check if you need...
