I came here a few days ago because I saw that there was a new, highly-rated sushi place near Brentwood. The interior of the place looked clean and welcoming, and the prices seemed reasonable, so I gave it a shot.
I ordered a Salmon Wave Plate (Combo B) from their brunch menu and was pleasantly surprised with the taste of the items and the aesthetics of the dish. That being said, I cannot speak about the sanitary nature or hygiene of this restaurant. I also felt wary about eating each part of the dish for reasons I will describe below.
When I was waiting for my order, I noticed that the chef did not use any gloves to handle the food. The cashier also helped out at one point but I wasn't sure if he had washed his hands after handling my cash payment. Of course, they may have washed their hands but my problem lays in the Salmon Oshi in the dish I ordered.
I am someone that usually cuts their sushi rolls in half before I eat them. Upon cutting the first Salmon Oshi roll, I found a short strand of hair in the rice. I thought this could be a one-off thing, so I dismissed it. However, when I cut the other Salmon Oshi rolls, I found more strands of hair. There were three Salmon Oshi rolls in total, but there was a strand of hair in each one (see photos below). One strand of hair, I could understand because cross-contamination is inevitable. But three? I am sorry to say that I was a bit disgusted. This made me uncomfortable with finishing my dish but I was too nervous to bring it up to the cashier.
I wanted to enjoy this place because of its reasonable pricing and aesthetic plating. However, I can't enjoy a restaurant if I do not feel comfortable with its hygienic practices, especially since I will be...
Read moreI've been eyeing this place ever since we heard that Dave from our other sushi spot we used to go too was opening up a new place!!! They were doing renovations for a couple weeks and I kept seeing Salmon Wave popping up on my Instagram . Hallelujah!!! we had to go do a pickup at Brentwood mall so this was the best chance for me to try this place.
It was 1:20pm on Thursday afternoon. Gorgeous out and there was a lot of seating still remaining even though 3 tables were full. People were actually walking in or grabbing takeout.
Just entering was clean and was greeted by the waitress:cashier and owner Dave. Dave used to run another place that we frequent too so it's a great surprise!!!
We checked out the menu and it even had my hubby favourite roll from the old sushi place called the LION KING ROLL. If you like a fusion of Cali/dynamite roll + cheese and corn, that's the roll to get!
I ended up getting the brunch menu set A (BAKED ROLL PLATE) and it was fresh and I loved the dressing for the salad. It comes with Baked Salmon Roll (1/2), West Coast Roll (1/2) Hi-Five Roll (1/2), Spring mixed Salad & Egg. Guacamole, Pickled Pepper, Baguette, Fruit. I ate the whole plate and I was so happy but super full!
We will be back again. Thanks for the friendly and super quick service!
I suggest everybody check this place out. Even their fresh poke bowls are way less costlier than everywhere else. Healthy alternatives compared to the fast food or overpriced establishments around the Brentwood area. PLUS THEY'RE OPEN LATE! 11am until 11pm!!!! So whether it's work or you have the munchies, this...
Read moreOkay so I’ll admit, I did rush ordering this cause I got off late at work and needed tempura sauce. Didn’t read the menu. I asked for gomae, vegetable spring roll, and tempura sauce. Some people call tempura sauce different things, but they didn’t say that they didn’t have this. They then gave me a vegetable sushi roll, gomae, and I didn’t take the sauce they were going to give me. I asked a few times since the woman taking my order couldn’t hear me properly, but when I got there I was told that I should have asked and that they didn’t serve any tempura. Not gonna lie, felt like an idiot since I didn’t check the website. But they didn’t try to make it up to me except take off the sauce they were gonna give me. That’s not all, after talking to me like I’m an idiot, while I already feel humiliated (again, most of this is my fault) I come home to this two bites of mediocre gomae. The thing costed 5.95. That’s two bites. I’ve had more for less, better quality too. Again, not looking at the menu is my fault, can’t blame that on the store. However, I can blame their reaction to the problem at hand, plus the absurd pricing they had for said gomae. Here’s a pic.
I hate writing one star reviews, but this experience will make me never come back again. Already felt like an asshole when I came in, felt worse coming out.
Update: still stand on what I said about the place. However, I liked the atmosphere. Still...
