I saw this place when I went to Mon Paris Patisserie to pickup a few sweet gifts for a couple of friends. Noted…
A week later, decided to give this place a try. It’s located a block south of Metrotown (Beresford St. & McKay Ave. in Burnaby). There are paid street parkings available or be cheap and daring, park at Metrotown Center and walk over (which I don’t suggest).
Was greeted and got seated, inside was quite bright and spacious with tables situated all along the window side. After a quick look thru of the menu, here were the food I ordered;
Miso soup. Pretty basic and it was warm not hot. Beef tataki. It was okay’ish kinda.. but for sure could be plated and presented better. Soft shell crab. Nice light crisp and tender inside. Just lack on seasoning a bit that’s all. Salmon, toro, negitoro, saba nigiris. Overall they were pretty good. Lobster supreme roll. The roll was a bit too stiffed, the sauce and mini fries took away and masked the lobster flavour. (Fell short of being supreme) Assorted sashimi. The red tuna was abit frozen still, everything else was fresh. Blue fin Chu-toro sashimi. It was actually still frozen , almost like eating a tuna popsicle. Plus a lot of tendon, making it an unpleasant chewing experience. (Never serve sashimi or nigiris still frozen).
Overall, it’s a pretty casual dining atmosphere with a basic layout. The service itself was okay and pretty standard, nothing to boast or complain about. As for the food, could use a bit of creativity and some of the sashimi would be better served close to room temperature rather than still almost frozen. Nevertheless, at least I gave it a try rather than just stayed...
Read moreWhat a letdown! We decided to grab a party tray and a sushi combo for dinner via their website, with an estimated wait time of an hour. However, upon arriving around 7:30 PM, our order hadn't even been started. It seemed they were unaware of our order altogether. Despite being told to wait for 10 minutes, there was no progress. Disappointed, we decided to cancel. Regrettably, when we inquired about a refund, we were simply directed to contact their online service provider.
Subsequently, we found ourselves waiting an additional 43 minutes with no resolution. Upon receiving our order, the quality was below expectations. Most of the sushi in the party tray was wrapped with avocado, an unexpected deviation. The discrepancy between the advertised photos and the actual product was disappointing.
In addition, it appeared the restaurant was understaffed, which may have contributed to the service issues. It might have been prudent for them to temporarily halt online orders until they could manage the workload more effectively.
In conclusion, I would advise against patronizing this establishment unless you're prepared for a lengthy wait. It's also worth considering alternative ordering platforms, as they may offer better discounts and more accurate wait times.
While my experience was disappointing, I hope this feedback helps improve their service for...
