I wanted to try a buffet in Calgary. Went there on Friday, before Christmas at around 1.20pm.
The ambiance is ok, cozy with dimmed light. Not very crowded at this hour, compared to the ones in France.
The service is good, I mean the waitress served me water and refilled my glasses a few times. Staff is friendly.
The food trails were half empty, maybe because of the hour, I don’t know, but you don’t have many choices. I was disappointed. In France, you have much more choices, even in week days (and lots of sea food and fishes). There was fried rice, 2 kinds fried noodles (didn’t try them), orange chicken and kung pao chicken (it was ok, maybe a bit sweet for me). The meat aisle with chicken, pork and beef was a bit sad. Meat was VERY dry. You can also find fries, calamar a la romaine which I don’t know the English name. The dim sun was good. The little dumpling with custard is so dry, and the filling is grainy. Not my taste. Pak choi and broccoli sautee was good. The fish tilapia has no flavor. Sushi/maki was better than the ones in France, but still dry. The mussels was sautee with oyster sauce which could be better if not cold. The cakes were just ok. I mean, there was mango cake, strawberry cake and white chocolate. I tried each one, but it wasn’t that tasty. The flan was a bit bland. For the ice cream, I tried the super hero one, the one very colorful, and you know when you eat it, it is gonna be chemicals flavor 100%. I could not say which flavor it was… I also tried the gelato kind of sorbet (mango and rasberry) and I like it.
Week day price is $24 and because it was holiday season, I paid $27 (excluding taxes). It was my first and last try for...
Read moreWe dined here as a family for dinner on a Tuesday night and unfortunately we had a terrible experience.
The food was terrible to say the least. The grilled meats (pork belly and short ribs) were old, stale and bad tasting, incredibly dark, insanely dry and resembled jerky that you left out on the counter and forgot about outside of its packaging.
Hot food bar was just so sad, salt and pepper squid was a soggy mess, food was not refilled (everything looked like scraps left behind from the previous dinner service) , fried noodles were so dried out the tops were a different color, sautéed bok choy was beyond wilted and mushy, black bean mussels also resembled leftovers as well the meat so dry it looked discoloured and shrunken in the shell. Sweet and sour chicken and Kung pao chicken were super soggy and left out for so long it was cold and the sauce just stuck on the pan like glue.
Sushi was probably the “best” selection of the place but even so it was below mediocre. The state and condition of the hot food selection made the sushi an uneasy and unappealing choice.
Dessert was also not exciting with 3-4 selections of cakes that were also dried out. Ice cream bar cover was left open so the ice cream was stale. Soft serve was decent with a raspberry and pineapple flavoured sorbet.
The highlight was service. Staff were quick to clear the plates and refill drinks.
Definitely NOT WORTH the $33 per person. We HIGHLY recommend you ask to preview the food before committing to dine so you don’t make the same...
Read moreNice enough place but the food, I thought was lacking. The place is conveniently located on one of the busiest streets in Calgary. So if you are looking for a quick easy bite where you can eat right away, this is certainly the place.
Their wine was lovely and crisp. I did enjoy that. Their food was only okay. Yes they do have vegetarian options but it was nothing special. There was nothing that really made these eats any more unique then the next place. I was not happy to see their dessert on their buffet. That is my favorite part of any meal. Their ice cream had freezer burn on them and their cakes looked like there was no love to them. It was really sad to see.
The people there were okay too but it was clear that they were not happy to be there. It was a busy night but shouldn't that be a good thing? Perhaps a little enthusiasm might help. They were friendly enough to us when we managed to get their attention. Sadly, we felt a little ignored.
I will say that the ambiance is beautiful. The mix of feng shui, modern Asian décor, and open space is stunning. The way that they displayed the food and made the place shine. It was also set up in a way that people have easy access to the food. So that is good. It is definitely a good way to inspire happiness in a person.
With the kind of money we paid for this buffet dinner. We had hoped that everything was a little better. Both with the food and the service. It's not bad but I don't think I'll be back. ...
