A&W Canada — Restaurant in Calgary

Today I visited this location. I love the A&W chain, but this particular restaurant is nothing like the others — and not in a good way. At first glance, everything seemed clean and fine, but the staff were preparing food without gloves, which was very unpleasant.

Then we received two Chubby Chicken burgers, which were completely different from what you normally get at other A&W locations. Unfortunately, I didn’t take a photo, but the meat was extremely thin — you could barely taste the chicken. I always order the Chubby Chicken at different A&W spots, so I know what the meat is supposed to look and feel like, and this wasn’t it at all.

When the manager came over, he asked if we had any “confusions.” We explained our concerns about the meat, but he insisted that it’s always like that at all A&W restaurants — which is not true.

Also, they didn’t have the signature seasoning for the fries that every other A&W location offers. When we asked about it, they pretended not to understand what we were talking about.

And lastly — the ketchup. It was the worst ketchup I’ve ever tasted. Either it was watered down or it was the absolute cheapest brand you could possibly find.

The overall impression I got from this place is that they’re cutting corners at the expense of the customer. Oh, and I saw the rag they used to wipe down the tables — it was disgusting. My socks look cleaner than that cloth.

Terrible. I’m never coming...

I have been here more than 1/2 dozen times in the last couple months as my coworker finds this location convenient. I have recently let him know my thoughts in regards to this location. I find the burgers I order at the location are consistently lacking toppings by a huge percentage compared to burgers I order at two other locations that I frequently visit in SW Calgary. This along with an employee being sick while working and taking orders and coughing behind the counter with her mouth open on our last visit, were enough for me to post this review. Yes, I said she should be at home when she’s that sick and mentioned it when she was beside another employee and unfortunately they just both ignored my comments. Hopefully I’m not back at this location, as I’m not the decision-maker for lunches. If I am, I will definitely post pictures to show the difference between the burgers at this...

The restaurant was closed around 10:45pm when it said on the door that the dining room will be open till 11pm. I knocked on the door and the staff ignored us. Went through the drive thru to ask why they closed the door before 11pm one of them told us that they thought it was 11pm already then another employee said they closed the doors because there are homeless people outside. I told them that I will complain about this and they did not care.

Edit: I received a phone call from the restaurant and we talked about the situation, the manager was respectful and understanding. So obviously me getting a phone call from the restaurant is a great step up to the right direction since they do seem to care about the negative experience that happens sometimes and to try to avoid situations like this...
