I have been going to Benny's for so many years I can't even remember the first time. It has consistently been one of my fav places to eat. I am not an adventurous eater and have ordered the exact same thing for years and enjoyed it every time. I have accepted all the changes over the years from water charges, plastic plates, ending the table buzzer, the increased prices, the online presence, the commentary and writings posted about covid and the government and even the somewhat aggressive messages around the restaurant about talking to the owner about complaints before posting elsewhere.
Today, I may have come across something I can no longer accept. A $1 charge to order more items. Yup, That's right. $1 to add items on top of the item charge.
I thought it was a calculation error on my bill. I added a poached egg ( that is always served in it's own bowl) and a side of Hollandaise sauce (also served in it's own small container). Each item was $2 however the receipt displayed $5 for these items. I pointed it out to the waitress and she told me this is the charge to customize your breakfast. That makes sense to me if I was editing a set menu item or asking for the chef to do anything special but I was actually just ordering 3 things to come at the same time.
I asked to speak to Kevin, who was on site mere moments before as I saw him seating people. You never came over. I's still not sure why not when you have signs pleading with people to talk to you about issues. It would have been great to have a chat about this obvious misunderstanding on the bill but you never came to chat. The $1 was removed from the bill from another staff member. The reason I wanted to connect was 2 things, why do you have a charge for $1 to order items and why is the $1 hidden on the bill. All items are itemized except there line item for this extra charge.
I hope I don't have to find a new breakfast place because I really will accept most things you choose to do because I enjoy the food but before we return, it would be great to understand why this charge comes into play and if it will be an ongoing charge.
My 1 star review is related to everything not food, service or...
Read moreI frequent Bennys with my family. However, today I encountered extremely rude and unprofessional service from a server named Tonya (or Tonia - the manager on duty). I had requested for extra candy on my milkshake and the lady who took my order informed the server that I needed extra candy. But the server said nothing to her and brought the milkshake with no extra candy, later informing me that there is a charge for extra candies. This was surprising to me, as I have never been charged for extra candies on a milkshake at Bennys before (in fact, I dined in last Sunday and was not charged for extra candy).I asked the server what the extra charge is but she did not respond. I attempted to explain to the server that I had never been charged for extra candies, but she responded in a very rude manner which upset me. Consequently, I requested a refund, but the server refused, resulting in a wait of over 10 minutes for the refund. The server then placed some cash on the front desk, claiming it was my refund; however, I requested a refund to my debit card, as that was my method of payment. The server cursed at me and walked way. I waited and waited and would always call for her attention to refund my money back but the server refused to return my money and ignored me. Subsequently, the owner, Kevin, appeared and did not apologize or address the situation. I suspect the server informed him that I was rude and attempting to create a scene, which was untrue, and Kevin's failure to inquire about my experience was highly unprofessional. All Kevin asked was “how much is your money”? This treatment is entirely unacceptable and certainly not the appropriate way to treat a customer, especially one who dines regularly. I believe that the rude demeanor of Tonya and Kevin's management of the situation will adversely impact the quality of service provided to customers. If there is an additional charge for extra candies, it is essential to inform the customer rather than respond rudely...
Read moreKate and I are breakfast buddies as we have the same expectations for breakfast. And they are high! No Cora's for us!! After several months, we FINALLY got together for breakfast at Bennys Breakfast Bar. Kate put our names on the waitlist prior to leaving her place way up in the NW. I suggest you do the same and give yourself at least 30 min. There wasn't much of a lineup when we got there but there was a long one when we left. Of course, with the name being Bennys, you just have to order a benny! But there are so many from which to choose. Just think of one and I bet they have it or something very similar or better. We were blessed with an excellent server, Tiffany, who made sure we had a memorable experience. Tiffany suggested the chorizo benny and the wagu beef one. So we ordered both and split them. We actually saw the wagu beef order go by before we ordered and we asked Tiffany what it was. It looked so decadent! The presentation was exceptional. I am sure they have a poached egg machine in the back because the eggs were PERFECT! The hollandaise sauce was rich and abundant. The broken yolk mixed with it so easily which is one of my signs of a good hollandaise sauce. We enjoyed both but Kate preferred the wagu beef benny. I did enjoy each one but I would have preferred no horseradish on the wagu beef benny. And, while the chorizo sausage was super tasty, I felt the sausage overpowered the benny. I would get the chorizo sausage next time just not in a benny. Another huge bonus was the carafe of hot coffee for me and another for Kate with hot water. It is such a nice touch! As the restaurant was busy, so was Tiffany but she always made the time to check in on us and make sure we were enjoying ourselves. She definitely enhanced our visit! Thanks, Tiffany! We left an hour and half later totally stuffed! I enjoyed myself. 'Breakfast bennys, good atmosphere and a great friend - what...
