I like to always give people the "benefit of doubt". The last time I went to this restaurant to order food, I had terminal difficulty asking for what I wanted. We had a severe language problem that ended in me just leaving with no food order. I decided that maybe there was a reason. Maybe they had to hire someone like that. I don't know. Tried again today. Successfully ordered a take out dinner for me and a friend to take to his office. Got the order and asked if there was soya sauce in the bag. She said no so I asked if I could get some. She very slowly walked from the front of the restaurant, (where I was at the door), into the kitchen area and slowly came back and handed me ONE packet of soya sauce. I kind of laughed and said that I meant that I would like enough soya sauce for both of us. (We had ordered steamed rice and wanted it for that.) She then very begrudgingly walked (slowly) back to the kitchen and came back with ONE more packet. "Okay" I thought, shaking my head. She then proceeded in giving me a VERY LOUD lecture about the soya sauce being very expensive. I could feel the heat in my face and everyone in the place staring at us. There was no language issue with her lecture. I was so embarrassed. I just said "It's ok. I'll just go buy a bottle.", and left as fast as I could. I will NEVER go back. If they wanted to charge for soya sauce, fine. Humiliating your customers is not an effective was to handle it. P.S. Chicken balls were hard as rock and S & S sauce was "vinegar-ey"....
Read moreGood food without the lingering taste of MSG. Portions are aplenty for the given price. Staff are nice with the exception of the male server (Winston). We frequent the place just because my in-laws like the food. My brother-in-law has special needs and Winston lost his patience one time as my brother-in-law was following up on his request for some hot water. Ever since, Winston would have that long face whenever we stepped into the resto despite my brother-in-law not doing anything. I reached a boiling point when Winston annoyingly lectured (in Chinese) that I make it clear how many seats I wanted for reservation as I had an infant in a carrier with me. I knew this as my mother-in-law translated for me. I retorted that it was my wife who made the reservation and that he shouldn't blow up at me. Most of all, I don't even speak Chinese! He was making such a big issue of that when my wife had made the reservation for the correct number of seats including our baby in the first place. Such audacity and disrespect to a regular paying customer! Vented out to the wife of the owner and she said I must have just been tired when I explained I came from a long drive. Seriously? Nobody deserves to be spoken down to in that kind of tone. The resto wasn't even full at that time! Ruined my evening and badly wanted to step out, if not for my in-laws. This kind of employee has no right to be in the service industry, let alone...
Read moreI had high hopes for this place because of the reviews, but unfortunately I left disappointed. The food is not bad and, compared to other restaurants, not overly salty. There was only one waitress, so service was decent for how busy she was. Food came by pretty quick. My disappointment came when it came to a price of a dish. There has been an ad in the newspaper stating the Peking Duck 3 Course is $45.95, but our bill stated $52.95. When we asked about this mistake on our bill to the owner, we were told that the advertisement is for a smaller duck and we didn't specify when ordering. We said the ad and the menu did not specify there are 2 sizes. In response, the owner said "well our regular customers would know that". I was flabbergasted. As the owner's "good gesture", she "gave" us the sale price of the peking duck instead. I really wanted to come back and try out their lunch menu and other dinner items, but I don't think I will if this is the service FROM THE OWNER. My two stars is specifically for the only one waitress and the kitchen that made pretty decent food. I'm sure if they had a better owner, then they would be...
