Pho Thanh Vietnamese Noodle House — Restaurant in Calgary

Do not come to this place as there are so many better options here in Calgary! Most restaurants use a fancy name to attract their customers and this one is no exception. Don’t be fooled by the name as “Thanh” means brilliant in Vietnamese. There is nothing brilliant about this place. Both servers lack the professionalism and expertise working in the hospitality industry. We went there after 7pm which is considered past peak hours for restaurants as most people would dine in between 5 to 7pm. It was not even that busy but for whatever reason, the waitress still messed up the order. Like many other pho places, food is served within a few minutes as most of the stuff is already prepped and ready to go. One bowl of pho was missed and we followed up a couple of times before the waitress finally walked over with our order sheet and tried to proof us wrong. There was no communication between the waitress and us as she was more focused on finding out whether the mistake was made by herself or us. She then walked around and see if the bowl was misplaced on any other tables. Without any further communication or an apology, she just walked straight into the kitchen and came back with the bowl 5 -10 minutes after. Most of us already finished our meal while my dad was still trying to finish his bowl which came 15-20 minutes later. His bowl of noodles was half cooked and it’s probably because they were trying to rush it through when they finally realized that they missed it. While we were patiently waiting for him finishing his meal, we have asked for a refill of the tea but were again completely ignored. The other male waiter even started sweeping the floor around our table while some of us were still eating! As soon as everyone stopped eating, the female waitress who messed up the order, literally throwed an empty tray on our table and started cleaning while we were still sitting there. She didn’t even bother asking if everyone was finished before throwing everything in the trash. If there is a hospitality 101 training out there, recommend to these folks as they don’t know what service is about. As for the food, the broth is so dreadfully bland and no amount of sriracha or hoisin sauce can turn it around. For those who eat pho regularly, you will know that the broth is the single most important ingredient of the soup. To an average Calgarian, they may think it is okay to their untrained phoreign tongues. We had to ask for a tea refill (which we never got) as you will be guaranteed thirsty after eating their artificially flavoured broth. There is a Dollarama a block away so be prepared to spend a few bucks for a jug of water as you will need it to quench...

I am an old patron of this restaurant for 10 years, and I recommended it to so many friends, however, I was so disappointed yesterday. I am not sure if the absence of the boss causes this problem, but the entire services are so different. They offerred me with a wrong order. The served order was either not the one I ordered, or they just forgot to put the necessary meet as indicated on their menu. But fortunately, they remedied it after I pointed out. The staff just ignore my requests. The first one was for a cup of water. I waited for at least 5 mins, during this period of time, the staff walked by me a couple of times, but did not bring water to me. The second time was for a take-out container. I waited for at least 10 mins. In the 10 mins, I did not know how many times the staff walked by me, until I asked the second time. The staff did not know how to prioritize their work, so that they could not serve well. Like in my example of waiting for container, in that 10 mins, the staff were cleaning tables but there were a lot of cleaned table there, and no customers came in. Therefore, what was your priority at that time? the amount of food was so less than before, including beef. Is that because of so many clients at that time? So you have to give less? Or is it the reason of higher price of your ingredients? As a 10-year customer of this restaurant, I feel really bad about it. In my mind, this restaurant was the best pho restaurant in Calgary, but I do not feel this...

Always have eaten here , great service and food , But I need to tell a quick story that happened to me last night , I went in to order 2 number 23s , if you haven’t had them they are excellent! I payed for my takeout and sat down, this is when my wallet fell out of my shorts without me knowing , I returned home and we enjoyed our excellent meals not knowing I came home without my wallet, the woman’s husband found my wallet and drove it to my address witch was on my drivers license, unfortunately we were asleep at the time and did not here the doorbell , woke up in the morning tearing the house apart looking for my wallet , this is when my girlfriend mentioned maybe check and call the restaurant, which I did and the women was Yes we have it !! I was so excited and raced down there to pick it up didn’t even care about the amount of money in it , Was soooo happy to have it back , tried to give her 50 on the way out for the effort they made , and she refused the gift ! Bottom line great people and complete honesty, She will get that 50 back with amount I’m gonna order in the next...
