I have dined in and taken out from this restaurant for many years. The food is still good as the day it first opened. The atmosphere of the restaurant is consistent. The kitchen staff are professionals and provide great results to orders
However the overall service has deteriorated over the years. Whether uncontrolled or not, there have been at least 5 instances of the restaurant not being open despite their listed hours of operations. Unforeseen circumstances are understandable, but I have also experienced circumstances which are not as forgivable (i.e. watching a flames game). It is not until I personally drive to the location that I find out the restaurant is closed via note on the door. Kimu has a Facebook, Instagram and even a phone that can easily set up an automated message but there is no usage of any of these tools to inform the customers ahead of time of the availability of service.
In years prior, regardless of how busy the restaurant would be, the serving staff would be able to have me seated or at the very least greeted/acknowledged me while waiting for a table. This is no longer the case as I have experienced at least a 15min waiting after arriving without even a wave or hello. Being busy is understandable; no tables being currently available due to needing to be cleaned is understandable; not greeting or acknowledging your customers to let them know work is being done for their arrival is unacceptable.
Furthermore, when ordering take-out, the serving staff does not alert the customer when the food is ready. I have witnessed non-SkipTheDishes orders sit 5-10mins without any staff contacting their recipients it is ready. This is also unacceptable. Your customers not arriving in the estimated time is the customers fault; however, if the food is ready, it is necessary to inform the customers as soon as possible for both the quality of the food and service for the customer.

Read moreWe often dine at this restaurant as its in my neighborhood and we like to support local small businesses. Food is pretty good. We usually get take out. Today my family of 5 decided to dine in. We were the only table at 5pm as the restaurant had just opened. Last minute, the 3 year old decided not to come so there were only 4 of us. The waitress who served us was very cranky....not very happy, it seemed like she was having a bad day. She was rough when putting the beverages and utensils on the table. This was the same when our entrees were put on the table. When we were finished, she continued to be very rough removing the dishes off the table and almost spilled the sauce on my jacket. At this point I just wanted to pay the bill and get out of this restaurant. (* to clarify we were very hungry and had ordered 5 entrees). My daughter was very upset with our experience and confronted the waitress. She asked the waitress if she was having a bad day? And that she was very rude with serving us. The waitress replied " you said 5 people and only 4 of you showed up". So im guessing we were punished with bad service and our food dropped off at our table with attitude! Please note at this point there were only 2 tables of 4 in the entire restaurant. There were no one waiting in line and plenty of empty tables available.
Rest assure this will be our last time supporting this restaurant. the 1 star on this review is...
Read moreWent there for dinner tonight with my boyfriend and it took them an hour to push out three dishes. Prawn tempura came first then the katsu Don and lastly the beef tataki (or as they call it beef sashimi). They forgot to order in our sushi and sashimi combo even though the waitress confirmed the order with us. After that they gave us the bill before we asked for it 40 minutes before closing (we were still waiting for the food we thought was coming). They also tried to charge us for the green tea ice cream we didn't even receive even though we did order it. The waitress offered to get us the sushi and sashimi combo but we felt very unwelcome after they gave us the bill and we had plans after. (She wasn't offering for free but to get the order in and we'd still pay) Also just to note there were only 3 tables occupied including us. Their beef tataki was standard, a bit on the salty side. Their prawn tempura was okay, the sauce tasted great. The katsu don wasn't filling and pork cutlets were soggy. Went from a $75-80 bill to $40 bill.
Overall:
Customer service: poor, given the bill before we asked for it, didn't get our ice cream when it was on the bill, and the waitress forgot to input our order correctly
Food: average, the pork cutlets were soggy.
Would not...
