My fiance and I came in at 8:45 on Saturday night and immediately the vibes were weird. The set up of the tables was super strange - far too many chairs along the side for the amount of tables there were and the chairs were scattered all around. We chose our seat and were given two glasses and a jar of water and then didn’t see the server for 15-20 minutes. When we arrived we were one of approx 4 tables. We watched the server take her time cleaning tables and standing around at the bar instead of taking our order. When the server finally did come over, we ordered two margaritas, one pound of garlic parm wings, crab cakes, and truffle fries. The wings came out after about 10 minutes, however we didn’t get our drinks until after we had finished the wings. The rest of the food came out quite a bit later as well. Our initial plan coming in was to order more wings after we finished the first round as to not overwhelm the kitchen and save table space. Unfortunately we decided against that as after our food was dropped off, our server did not come back to check on us at all. We were quite disappointed as we wanted to try some of the ‘stranger’ flavours of wings and enjoy more drinks, but judging by how slow service was, and the fact we had already been there for an hour, we didn’t feel like it was worth it. By the time we decided to leave, there were around 10 other tables and the server was very clearly struggling to accommodate everyone. There were times where she would stand at the bar not doing anything other than talking to the bartender. She explained to multiple tables that it was her first day and that she was the only server there, which I find quite shocking as someone that works in the restaurant industry. Leaving a brand new employee to run the entire place with what clearly was very little training is a very great way to make a poor experience for customers.
Overall, the wings were okay, the crab cakes were lukewarm, and the drinks were standard. Maybe one day we’ll give it another shot and see if the service has improved and if the fun wing flavours are...
Read moreWe came to Coco Cabana Club on Saturday evening with a group of 6. We had seen the hype from some local Calgary pages and thought it would be a fun place to check out as we were celebrating 2 birthdays. Upon arrival, the atmosphere seemed a little off. It was a little overwhelming with the amount of things they have put in there… not too much room to move around at all. We were sat at one of the booths in the window. We waited quite a while for a server to come over… well unsure if he was a server or kitchen staff, but either way… he greeted our table, and we ordered some drinks, shots, and the popcorn. The Pina Colada was lacklustre at best, and The Zombie could have had a little more effort as the taste fell short. Then the chili lime popcorn arrived…. First, it took a hot minute to show up - which we all thought - how hard is it to mess something so simple up? Well, it arrived … and in the best way to describe it - wet. Very disappointed all together. Our server (I think she was a server, but how you seem to gaslight all other negative reviews and say you don’t have a female server, we shall call her your other female worker) barely even came to talk to our table, dropped off fries that belonged to another table and then ignored us when we told her they weren’t ours - also looked shocked when we asked for the bill. This place (could) have potential. With actually training your staff, understanding how the industry standard works, and taking pride in the food, drinks, and other items you have on the menu, it is a possibility. However, I really would be surprised if this place lasts even a year. I would not recommend. Take responsibility for the treatment of your staff, who are clearly new servers and very green, and use these reviews as constructive criticism, and a way to (re)build your business. Not lash out and be in denial. Unfortunately this place is not worth the hype. Looks nice in pictures, but thats basically it. I will not be recommending this...
Read moreWe went with friends on Friday night. At first, the atmosphere was pretty cool and we were looking forward to a fun night with good food. Unfortunately, as the evening went on, things went downhill.
The drinks were enjoyable for the most part, but definitely overpriced. We ordered appetizers (squid rings) and when they came out, the batter was still gooey inside. They were replaced, but still not cooked properly. We still has to pay for them. The wings that followed were cold—though the sauces and flavours were decent. Service was slow, with drinks not being replaced quickly, and as others have mentioned, there were only three staff working. Think one might have quit. She didn’t seem like she wanted to be there anyway.
For mains, we ordered tacos. One order arrived much earlier than the others, so by the time ours showed up—20 to 25 minutes later—the others were already finished. They were just okay.
At one point, a birthday celebration occurred and the music was turned up so loud we couldn’t even hear each other at the table. Just confirm this was maybe 7:30. Thankfully it only lasted a few minutes. The washrooms were also disappointing—just one for each gender, single-occupancy, and the women’s had a lineup.
The biggest frustration came at the end of the night. Our bill was $184 for two people—5 drinks, 2 specialty cocktails (almost $20 each, though served in nice glasses), 3 orders of wings, nachos, and one order of tacos. That price might make sense for steaks and wine, but not for what we had. On top of that, an automatic 18% gratuity was added without being mentioned. This was for a table of 4! My friends didn’t notice it on their bill, and tipped another 15%! I don’t actually know their totals but they were not happy with them.
The highlight of the night was simply spending time with good friends. Unfortunately, everything else—the food, service, pricing, and surprise gratuity—was disappointing. We won’t...
