My wife and I went to Earls Southcentre today. We had two $20 gift cards that were set to expire at the end of March, so we wanted to use them before then. We ate BBQ ribs and a hamburger and left a 20% tip. With the tip included, the total came to $76.23. If you subtract the two $20 gift cards from that, we should have only had to pay about $36.23. But the charge on my card was $55.63. That’s almost $20 more than it should have been. So, we called the server over and let them know the payment was incorrect. The problem starts here. Mistakes can happen with miscalculations, and we were honestly okay with that part. But what happened next with the people who seemed to be managers was really disappointing. They didn’t come to us with an apology or anything like that. It even felt like they were avoiding eye contact with us. We clearly saw three people, including the server, looking at the receipt and talking about it. Then, the server came back and said they’d give us a $20 gift card instead of refunding the money. I was completely dumbfounded. It wasn’t our mistake—it was their error for overcharging my credit card—so why should we have to accept a gift card instead of a refund? We told them we wanted a refund instead. After a long while, the manager finally came over with a receipt showing the refund had been processed, saying something about their system being weird. Still, there was no apology or any attempt to ask for our understanding. We felt totally scammed and left with a really bad taste in our mouths. We like Earls, but we probably won’t go back to the Southcentre location. I want to tell people to always check their receipts carefully when...
Read moreI was excited to visit the new South centre mall location. The place is lovely and very cozy with a nice feel and buss! Surprisingly the menu has drastically changed/reduced. Three of us were there for lunch, it was very busy. The server greeted us and asked if we needed drinks, we asked to give us a few minutes to decide, she handed out about 6 different menus, drinks menu, lunch menus, etc etc we ordered 3 glasses of wine but she never mentioned the fact that on Wednesdays they offer bottles of wine at 1/2 price so we didn’t know until after she served us the individual glasses. She never went through the specials, she basically asked about drinks and later asked if we were ready to order lunch, also there was sauce on the table and she came by several times to pick up our plates and finally I had to ask to either provide with more napkins so I could clean it myself or if she could clean it for us . The sauce spill was red and very visible! I had the lettuce wraps which were extremely salty and difficult to enjoy/finish for me. My friend had the sushi tacos and she wasn’t impressed either, they were 3 super mini tacos and she was still hungry after. Ordered the key lime for dessert, again I found it super sweet and just okay. I found this experience disappointing plus very expensive for what we had . The 5 ounces wine $ 15 dls and the 7 ounces $ 21 and 9 ounces $ 25???? I can see why more and more people stick to H2O… You may want to get your servers to spend a minute to talk about the specials, it makes no sense to not offer the 1/2 price wine when the 3 of us are ordering individual...
Read moreEDIT: Have been in contact with someone from Earls and we have resolved the situation.
My husband and I have a new baby. This is one of the few times we have gone out for a sit down meal together. We came out on a Wednesday night, wine and steak night. Despite not having a reservation, we were seated promptly. Amazing, love it.
Then, we had our server stop by immediately to offer water selection and came promptly with water. Great! Hydration is key!
Then we were left for 20 minutes.
At that point, we decided to order a bottle of wine and our mains to keep dinner moving along. We waited and waited for our bottle of wine to appear and it never did. In fact, our mains were dropped at our table 25 minutes after we ordered, but our wine was still missing. Our server apologized and was on the case for the MIA wine. Then, 5 minutes into our mains, he brings over the wine with a story about it not being in the cooler and getting the manager involve to retrieve this. At this point, we decline the the bottle of wine since our mains have arrived.
Then, the bill comes. The $5 off steak was not applied and the justification was were order a steak not included in the special. The exclusion of certain steaks was not communicated and is quite confusing to a customer when all the steak is in the same location on the menu. They gave us the discount anyways, but explain it normally isn’t included.
Needless to say, as a previous frequent customer of Earls, I won’t be heading back anytime soon. The steaks were both cooked perfectly, if you...
