I’ve gone here a few times, and I really like their food. Today we ordered mutton curry and butter chicken. The butter chicken was only 4 pieces of chicken, about the size of chicken nuggets. Last time, we split the dish between 4 adults and my 3 year old son. This time, my son and wife each had one morsel, and I had two. It really seemed like about 1/3-1/2 the size of last time. The rest of the shallow dish was very runny sauce. Very disappointed.
When the mutton curry showed up, but was chicken instead of mutton.. so we sent it back and got to wait another 15 minutes. Both dishes didn’t come with rice, so I ordered mutton biryani, because plain rice was FOUR DOLLARS!! So I decided to make it an actual dish for $10… all the food tasted good, but the order screw-up, the shockingly small portion sizes, and the $4 plain rice was all a big turn-off. Won’t be returning again.
Btw, as we waited to pay, we saw another table get their food served. They also ordered the mutton curry, but their dish was HEAPING with mutton. It was enough for three VERY generous plates of food. Maybe you’ll get treated better here if you’re the right race/religion. This area is very predominantly brown/Muslim. I’m white. I took another look around at other tables and seemed to notice everyone’s portion sizes to be significantly larger than mine. Maybe they ordered 1.5 servings or a double serving? But it was in one dish, not two. It seemed too significant of a portion size difference to be an accident.
PS: my friend enthusiastically introduced us to this restaurant because he went a couple years ago and the portion sizes were big and dishes were inexpensive. He was shocked at the total, when we ate there together for my first time. It was roughly double what he was guessing, based on...
Read moreI have been a loyal customer for the past decade at this restaurant, I come to Calgary once in awhile from Edmonton, and have always eaten here. Except for today, today I called 30 minutes in advance to book for a reservation like I usually do, but this time I was told that upstairs was full and wouldn’t be available, so I asked if I could be next for reservation, but the lady on the phone said I can’t get the reservation, as she doesn’t know when the people upstairs would be done, and that she can’t make the reservation as it is “First come, First Serve” I thought I’d just go there as I might be able to wait out the amount of time for the people upstairs to finish up. When I got there the restaurant was dead, there was nobody eating upstairs or downstairs, I needed the room upstairs as I have a party of 9. When I arrived there, I asked for a table upstairs as I have 9 people, and the lady said it was reserved at 7, so I asked if it was the whole area upstairs, and the lady rudely said yeah, all of upstairs, and then offered me to sit downstairs on a table that would be meant for 5 people. I politely declined, and said I’d go elsewhere. I ended up going to Mehfil Curry & Kebab where I was treated with the utmost respect and got the best service there. It is unfortunate that what was such a good restaurant at one time has come to this with such rude and...
Read moreFood was fine. But the service was the absolute worst service I've ever experienced in my life (for reference, I'm a 53-year-old woman). We were greeted by a surly waitress who took our order and promptly forgot to bring us water and our drinks. Food came (and we ordered a lot), water was requested again as were the drinks. Water came, no drinks. Had to request again. Ordered more food, more drinks, food came, drinks did not. Meanwhile, the dishes we had finished were left for us on the table to manoeuver as best we could with the new dishes coming. We finally requested our drinks again and they grudgingly gave them to us. No one cleared our empty plates or dishes the entire time we were there. No dessert offered. But the crowning moment was when we were asked to "tone it down" because we had all burst out laughing together. Worst was, there was no one else in the restaurant! And it's not like we were shrieking...we just happened to laugh all together (four people). However earlier a man and his wife came in to pick up their order and the man was ranting and shouting the whole time because he was angry about the current Sikh/Indian tensions and thought the owners of the restaurant were on the opposing side of his belief about the whole issue. No one told HIM...
