As it was (well, at time of writing is) my birthday, I figured we'd go to a place I'd heard a lot about, but never actually had been to, Five Guys. First impression of the place was that it was very bright, open and, most importantly, clean. Staff was attentive and friendly.
I had their bacon cheeseburger and Cajun fries and it was really good! Burger was well assembled (not like you often get, something that resembles a mix between the leaning tower of Pisa and something that's been partially run over by a car), very juicy and tasty and the nice thing is that you can freely choose your add-ons, but unlike Harveys, you order your toppings right when you order your meal, not after the burger is cooked. Not that it makes much of a difference, but still figured it's worth mentioning.
I really enjoyed that the patties were also a little crispy from caramelization at the edge and I must say that they really nailed the fries by double-frying them, making them slightly crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside and it also shows in the flavour, which is really locked in. So far these have been the closest to Montreal-style fries I've found. Also a nice touch is that they put a cup in the bag with the fries, fill that and then add another scoop of fries on top, so while the whole meal is not cheap, you get some nice quantity out of it, too.
Only downside is that they don't offer combos/meals, but you pay full price for every component, but oh well, the most important thing is that the food quality and taste are right.
We ate on the patio, which was really nice given the weather, only thing to complain about there was the insane amounts of gravel trucks going by, which was not very pleasant, but can't fault the restaurant for that.
So, given the price, it's definitely not something to do often, but as a treat, this is definitely a place we'll...
Read moreI’ve been going to this location since it opened but not as frequently lately as I moved to a different NW community. My 16-year-old son and I had dinner here tonight and after many terrible meals at McDonalds (Carrington) and Wendy’s in our neighbourhood, I was reminded that THIS Five Guys location is phenomenal.
When you walk in the door you’re greeted by all of the staff. The menu is simple and the ordering process is easy. The staff aren’t distracted and listen to you without interruption. The food isn’t cheap, and you’re going to wait at least ten minutes- but IT’S WORTH IT.
This location - without fail - is very clean. The tables are well spaced and spotless. The ketchup dispenser actually functions, the napkins are good quality and the drink area is organized and well stocked. You’re also allowed to get complimentary refills and aren’t harassed by an employee like others burger joints (namely McDs and Wendy’s). While you wait you’re able to snack on peanuts.
AND THE FOOD- the food is outstanding. My burger is always fresh, not slapped together, and the taste is out of this world. I don’t normally like fries but these fries are well-proportioned and perfectly fried. A small serving was more than enough for my son and I.
The restrooms are also well-lit, clean, have a functioning soap and paper towel dispenser.
I went out of my way to ask for the manager (Alma) and told her how impressed I was. It’s expensive to eat out nowadays but sometimes you have no choice. I appreciate establishments who value my patronage, take care of my needs and provide an exceptional product and service. Thank you for making my week!...
Read moreAlthough we arrived at noon, there was plenty of parking close to the front door and an accessible ramp for walkers and wheelchairs. Although there was an accessible button on the door, the wind was too strong to allow it to open without some serious tugging. Once inside we were greeted by a friendly staff member at the counter and they were very patient as we decided which double burger we would share. We went for the double cheese burger with lots of fillings and then indulged in a few peanuts while we waited for our number to be called. There was no mistaking when our order number was called out loud and clear. Our burger was cut in half, as requested and it was messy to eat, but so juicy and delicious. We shared a regular fries that had the perfect texture of crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a bit too much salt to our taste. The serving was so large that we were challenged to finish them all. The restaurant was clean and bright, and great family restaurant, and the lady's washroom was spotless. Overall it was a 5 out of...
