Hi Matt, thanks for reaching out to me. As I said, the food was good but service was not. Examples of poor service were:

Wrong drinks brought to the table Wrong food brought to the table Ran out of wasabi and nobody came to check on us. Kids sat with empty water cups until we finally got the attention of our server and asked for refills. Table was cleared and still waited for 10 more minutes to get the bill.

Overall I feel that the restaurant was either understaffed or staff was under trained. Either way, not an enjoyable experience and with so much competition for dining dollars in that area, I was honestly expecting a better experience.

Trust me, I empathize with what our provincial and municipal governments have done to businesses like yours...it makes an already tough economic enviroment even tougher. However I hope my experience during my visit helps you correct these issues and remain competitive.

I think this Globefish and restaurant in general is our favourite place for sushi in the SW/inner city area. I know others may think they are not as "authentic" as some of the Japanese restaurants in Calgary, but they have been around for a long time! The rolls are always fresh and the appetizers are delish! Our favourite appetizers are the rockin shrimp, gyoza, takoyaki, and the crispy shrimp dumplings! Matt seems to always be working and is super friendly and attentive. The one time we got our rockin shrimp order and it was a smaller portion than usual and it seemed overcooked/almost like someones leftover that were reheated. We let our server know and the kitchen re-made a new one for us right away; now that's great...

I'm not a huge sushi fan: I like it, but don't love it. I like this place though. There are some fairly unique items on the menu, including the Neo Tokyo, which is fantastic. Otherwise, it's fairly decent. They do serve a couple beers I've never seen anywhere else from Kiuchi Brewery — the Hitachino Nest White Ale was good. I've had takeout from this location a couple times too, and it stands up well versus eating in the dining room. The service was just ok, but nothing that it ruined the experience. Decent place for sushi...
