This little mexican cantina/market is tucked away in a small strip mall in Marda Loop and has ample parking outside. The cafe has a nice little menu offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. Breakfast is offered mondays thru Thursdays from 9-11 and ALL DAY on fridays and Saturdays (even hard working Maria needs one day off on sunday). We were there on Thursday evening and each had a bowl of delicious and authentic tortilla soup then shared a plate of 2 chicken tostadas. The market portion has a nice selection of mexican groceries, handicrafts, and cookware with three large industrial fridges full of meals to take home and tell your guests you've been cooking all day. This is a hidden gem offering the best and most authentic mexican food we've tried in calgary. Tres Maria's is open Mon-Fri 9am-7pm Saturday 9am-6pm closed Sundays and...
Read moreSad for me, I was so excited to get some authentic Mexican style tacos, I got there early while they were still only serving breakfast stuff. I wanted tacos so bad I decided to wait the 45 minutes. Well 45 minutes later I hand soup and carne Asada tacos. So disappointing, they were plain with no real good flavor; they came with a small amount of rice and beans and two small packets of toppings 1 guac and 1 salsa. I asked for and Extra taco with my order and there was now way they could accomodate that either. Plus almost $17 for three tacos was pretty steep After living in Mexico for several years where everything was so good and cheap maybe I am just jaded. Sorry I wish I could say this place was 5 stars as all I want is a good taco not to be negative! At least the staff were nice and...
Read moreTried this place on a lark. I’m a transplant from San Diego or I’ve tried all kinds of Mexican food from traditional family style to a taco shop. This is REALLY good.
My only complaint is that they have a dine in area mixed with storefront and there just isn’t enough room. The chairs and tables are super lightweight and you feel like they are ready to tip over.
I’m not sure if they regularly have a bean dip to try, but they did the other day and it was great too. I’d say get rid of some of the flimsy chairs and just have a 2-3 stand up tables if people want to eat there. This isn’t a sit down restaurant, so don’t try to be one.
Thanks!...
