Well. We were drawn in by the price and decided to eat here for our anniversary. I don’t even know where to begin.
There was not much hot and ready in the buffet tables. What was there was obviously there for a long time when we arrived. They would scrape out the old food and put new batches in the old hot pans. They never cleaned or replaced the hot pans and food was dried and crusted underneath each new batch. Customers had to constantly ask if more food was coming out. The sauces were all open in dishes at the end of the buffet table. Even the ketchup. It was all crusty or had old food that had fallen off other peoples plates floating in it.
The ice cream freezer was caked in old ice cream. The tracks for the door were decorated in every flavour that was in the freezer, some of which looked as if they needed to be replaced as they also had old food and other flavours frozen into the remainder of what was left in the bottom of the ice cream tubs. The scoops that they had were also dirty and covered in old ice cream with the water they are sitting in totally cloudy and not changed in who knows how long. We only ate the ice cream that was obviously just opened and asked for new clean scoops. Based on how dirty the food service is, I don’t think the kitchen or food storage would be much better.
Lastly, they charged us for our 2.5 year old to dine with us. She ate all of 3 bites of one crusty dumpling and half a scoop of ice cream. We have never had to pay for her in any buffet/all you can eat situation anywhere. Most places don’t charge until age 3-5. So that didn’t sit well after we had to constantly ask for food to come out, and some dishes were never refreshed while we were there. Any food we did have didn’t taste great, and wasn’t worth eating here for at all.
I didn’t feel well for most of the evening after eating here. We won’t be back and we DO NOT recommend anyone chance...
Read moreI went to this restaurant called Gold Bistro Chinese Restaurant in Southeast Calgary (Mindapore). It was a real hidden gem of a restaurant where you really wouldn't expect to have such fresh Asian cuisine. Such friendly owners and also regulars who were patting the back of the chef and also the owner. Alan immediately greeted us upon entering the restaurant brought us to our table and told us to continue eating and to please enjoy. While he was tending to all the business of the day, he was also ensuring the quality of the food was to be not looked over. While the selection was intimate, they focused extremely on fresh preparedness, quality ingredients, and enhanced delivery of foods, meaning, every time the pans of food were getting low they would actually take the entire pan back in to refill it entirely with fresh vegetables, seafood, cuts of delicately, prepared meats and fresh veggies. I would have to encourage anyone who loves to dine on freshly prepared Asian cuisine to check out and visit gold Bistro Chinese restaurant in southeast Calgary. They offer the best service and they do offer fresh high quality foods at a...
Read moreI was looking for a good [Westernized] Chinese buffet in Calgary... It's across the city, but I found one! I went at 5:30pm, half an hour after the buffet opened, so it may had something to do with the freshness and deliciousness of the food. But I would definitely go again! Cost was $16.99/person for dinner buffet, or $11.99/person for lunch. They have a good selection! No chicken balls, to the dismay of one of my friends who came, but I'm not a fan of those, anyway! They even have some traditional dim sum pork dumplings which were flavourful and delicious! The salt and pepper squid was by far my favourite -- it was spiced perfectly! They have some selection for any crew looking for a more Western meal: chicken nuggets, chicken wings, fries. I can't comment on how those were, because, uh, Chinese restaurant. I just loved everything I had, though. Well, okay, the won ton soup was a bit bland, but I could deal. Even the dessert bar had a good selection! Mystery ice cream flavours (the employees didn't even know what they were, haha!), mango pudding, Jell-O, cookies... Yum yum...
