I have traveled all over the world trying to find a better sandwich shop and those efforts have failed! These guys have been killin' it in Kensington for many years now relying on some very simple food service principles: Amazing Product, Extremely Fair Price, Great Service. No surprise the company has grown and now has multiple locations.
The ingredients are always fresh, like DJ Jazzy Jeff fresh, and they do not cheap out on the portions. Seriously, you should be chalk full after a Peppino sandwich or you may have an eating disorder, or maybe you just came from a famine. I actually can't help going to this deli - it has likely developed into an addiction. There is just simply no better value anywhere in Calgary. The quality of the ingredients you get for $10 or less is astounding and makes me feel sorry for people who go to Subway across the street and leave with that weird "processed" smell.
Joe the owner is about as legit as it gets for an Italian-Canadian deli owner. Forearms that make Popeye jealous, a moustache to strike fear in the hearts of the communists - you catch my drift? These guys care about delivering quality on every bun and do not compromise when it comes to flavour.
Here's the items to try first. #1 is set in stone but the rest of the list is in no particular order: Da Nico's: fully loaded meat heaven, basically everything good to come out of Italy is in this sandwich. Joe's Special: will make you feel special. Raging Turkey: will make a turkey feel special for being in this sandwich. Uptown Meatball: you will probably kill your best friend if they stole one of these meatballs from you. HBO (hot beef n onion): roast beef+house mustard+caramelized onions = delicious. Riches of Italy: prosciutto that has been cured into an orgasm Chicken alla Parmigiana Cacciatore: I can't pronounce it either, but I can remember ordering this for 3 meals in one day Crantastic Turkey: vegetarian option *Diclaimer- there are actual real vegetarian options, so don't get all stressed out thinking a turkey sandwich is the closest you get to a salad bun. But seriously, its turkey and cranberries...live a little.
Peppino also does an incredible breakfast sandwich and has tons of ready to cook authentic Italian dishes that even the most incapable bachelor can make ready and delicious on a third date. Last but not least, they have combined god's two greatest gifts to create, ironically, a most sinister of desserts: Guinness Gelato.
When I leave the country there are three places I miss: Peppino is one of them. It's the hallmark of family business in Canada done the right way and honestly the best sandwich you...
Read moreSo, I started a new job and my office is right in the heart of Kensington! 🥰🥰 Today I decided to treat myself and took myself out for lunch, I found myself at Peppino on Kensington Road. Fresh made on the spot, the sandwich I ordered did Not disappoint, the bun, meats, sauces, all of it was seriously on point!! It was well worth the price and the short walk, it was by far the Best freshly made Italian sandwich I have eaten to date! I was feeling spicy, and that is exactly what I got! The flavour of their in house made sauce, was insanely good! They slice the meat right in front of you, l’m literally still full from this delectable sando! I highly recommend you try this place! 🤤🤤🤤 Also, the bun was crazy soft, not chewy like Spalumbos or The Calgary Italian Bakery - in their own rights, their sanwiches are good too, but this place takes the cake, the cats meow of Italian Sandos! Just go, you wont be sad after eating here lol they also have a couple freezers of pre-made pizzas, meatballs etc. its like a tiny little market, cozy inside as well. ♥️ Service was also on point, fast and friendly! I would add pics but I cant figure it out on my phone lol 🤦🏻♀️ I had...
Read moreTotally love this place. I love independent businesses that are not "plastic" in the way in which they deliver customer service. I actually stopped in for lunch on my way to my best friend's funeral and really needed a reason to smile. I ordered the Joe's Special sandwich (pictured below and highly recommended). When I told the lady at the counter that I'd never noticed the place before, she said, "well what, have you been living under a rock?! We've been here for 31 years!" Then, as I was laughing at that, the chef set the sandwich down in front of me and exclaimed, "ONE JOE'S SPECIAL!" with a hearty smile on his face. WIFI is good (speedtest pictued). They also have a tree growing in the middle of the dining area, and a cool selection of take-home groceries (also pictured below). As I was dining, two happy Italian men at a table jokingly shouted, "HEY, WE DIDN'T ORDER THIS!" and then everyone laughed at once. Can't wait...
