I just had my first burrito from Tu Taco and was deeply unimpressed to say the least. The service and location is fine, the quality and quantity of the food was something to be ashamed of. I will just list off why I am giving such a poor review:
The embarrassingly conservation portion of meat. I know what you're thinking: you're overreacting because you're fat - the reality of the situation is that I had a single bite where I could taste the beef, every other bite was rice, beans, tortilla and for some reason lettuce.
The poor choice of ingredients / toppings Moving on from the meat (or lack there of), the other burrito ingredients were equally poorly executed. Lettuce in a burrito? No thanks, very soggy stuff. Beans - honestly fine, it's hard to screw up beans. Other ingredients - literally no other ingredients apart from rice, lettuce and beans - in other words, the least exciting burrito money can buy.
Salsa on the side. Why do I want my salsa on the side and not in the burrito? So I can dip my burrito in it? So I can spread the salsa on the burrito for each bite? So you guys can increase your use of plastic takeaway waste? Sorry guys but however you look at it this should be changed. Also keep in mind, adding salsa in the burrito might help mitigate the concerns mentioned in 2).
Takeaway / Conclusion Ultimately I will not be going back to Tu Taco and would dissuade anybody who values their money and tastebuds to do the same. Go to Mucho Burrito, go to Chipotle, although these are chains that almost guarantee diarrhea, the meal will be 18x better that the Tu Taco burrito I had to eat and they will leave you feeling although you ate a meal and not just a $12 snack of rice, beans, lettuce...
Read moreI was at this restaurant earlier today (Sunday, July 20 around 6:30PM) and everything seemed fine until I got home and checked my Visa statement. We ordered 2 beef birria tacos ($6.99 each), 1 Mexican Bulldog (Sunday special for $10), 1 Jarritos ($4.49), and 4 Al Pastor tacos ($15). With a 5% GST and an 18% tip, the total should’ve come out to around $54.
But my Visa shows I was charged $66.36. I didn’t get a receipt because the guy never asked if we wanted one, and I didn’t think to ask until I saw the charge at home. Totally my fault for tapping and not checking the amount before paying, but I’d still like to understand how they got to that total. If someone from the restaurant could explain the math, I’d appreciate it. I’ve lived in Calgary all my life and this is the first time I’ve noticed being overcharged after the fact, so I’m just hoping it was a mistake and not something intentional.
As for the food, I have to say I was really disappointed. I used to come here all the time and always told friends and family that they had the best beef birria tacos in the city. But today, they were extremely dry (even with the sauce). The Mexican Bulldog was advertised as a slush, but it wasn’t slushy at all; it came out fully melted, like a regular drink. Honestly, that felt like false advertising. And the Al Pastor tacos tasted like they’d been sitting around for a while (just old and not fresh).
I’m extremely disappointed, especially after recommending this place to so many people. Unfortunately, I won’t be...
Read moreI took my boyfriend and friend here for his birthday expecting great atmosphere and experience, but was dissapointed soon after we ordered. The cashier who took our order was not professional from our experience. My boyfriend also ordered a michadelo beer to which the menu said “corona beer mixed with lime juice, spices and tajun seasoning” don’t be fooled by this menu item if you’re not familiar with cultural Mexican drinks because once we received the drink it was dark brown, the colour of light coffee almost, after we all tasted it we realized this is not what we expected. Unfortunately my boyfriend has a soy intolerance which could have been a problem if someone had a soy allergy because after I asked what was in the drink she told me soy sauce and oyster juice as well as lime juice which either or were not mentioned in the menu. After my boyfriend went and spoke with the cashier who served us she said changed her answer to listing the soy ingredient as “soy flavouring”. Not only was this experience concerning but a boy about 10 years old served us our food at separate times spanning over 15 minutes when we all ordered together, this made it harder to bring up our concerns with the drink and overall service. Overall the portions were very small but food tastes delicious and we appreciate the other server coming to check up on the situation after we...
