Perfect Meat Bowl Calgary North — Restaurant in Calgary

Better wear stretchy pants to Perfect Meat Bowls! I've been there three times in October 2024, about a month after they first opened, and any issues described in earlier reviews by folks have totally been worked out; the chicken cutlets are tender and juicy, the Chinese hamburgers (rou jia mo) are flaky and filled with succulent braised meat and the skewers keep us coming back for more. I love chicken hearts and the skewers here are tender, perfectly done and covered in delicious Chinese grill spice.

The meat bowls are only as expensive as you make them (under $4/100g, with a 400g minimum, and can be split between 2-3 people easily), you get free prune juice and the soup bases are out of this world! I love Sichuan cuisine and the medium spice level on the Spicy soup base are what I would expect from a real Sichuan joint so use some good judgment based on how you deal with spice and Sichuan peppercorns; you can always ask them to make it hotter after tasting it but you cannot make something more mild as easily! I haven't tried the hot version of the Spicy soup base yet as medium is my comfort zone but I have tried the Braised soup base and it was absolutely amazing as expected.

The service here was so surprisingly good and friendly and they made sure we understood how the process works (you get a bowl and tongs, choose your ingredients for the meat bowl, then tell them what soup and extras you want and you order your grilled items from the QR code menu) and ensured we were always topped up with water and prune juice; five star experience from start to finish. Having extra napkins on the table in a basket is also so convenient and thoughtful as well! Delicious mala tang and great skewers, pretty pricy but quantity was decent.

We visited on Sun afternoon. It was about half full, they had a waiting in line machine in the entrance and it was showing 2 parties were waiting ahead of me. I entered and talked to a server as it was not busy, they just seated us so I canceled my spot in the machine. I believe it was not in use, they should have covered up the machine to avoid confusion.

Mala tang, you choose broth and ingredients are buffet style from their fridge area. Price is by weight and there is a minimum order requirement of 400g. Meat is add on item, not available by buffet / pay by weight. Which makes this mala tang price starting from about 16 dollars with no meat. Ours was about 35 bucks, but it was a huge bowl of soup! We got medium spicy, it was quite spicy still but delicious.

We also ordered many skewers, you need to order skewers from your phone, might be tricky for seniors. I really enjoyed their skewers, it’s big and delicious! My favorite was egg plant.

They also have yogurt drinks like bubble tea, it’s a great paring with spicy mala tang. They gave us a bottle of plum juice instead of water, which was very kind!

Service was little to no existing, they came in the beginning, after that no one came to do anything except delivering food for us.

Compare to other places which serve mala tang in Calgary, this place was a lot cleaner and sanitary. Their dish tasted delicious...

I was meeting up with a friend here. Staff were friendly and could accommodate a number of languages.

The concept here is interesting. You basically can customize your noodle bowl with a fusion of hotpot concept, except that they cook for you.

There is a $ per 100g with a minimum of 400g required. You get to choose your soup base and pay more for certain "hotpot" meats. I got just over 400g, which was a lot of food. I also chose the Braised Soup Base as they said it's beef noodle soup base.

They also carry a lot of skewers and deep-fried options. I picked up the French Fries since they could not make Super Long Fries that day.

The bowl was delicious. The meats were decent. I actually couldn't finish my bowl. I was very happy with the braise soup base as it was flavorful and delicious.

The French Fries were Cavendish frozen ones, aka Costco Fries. The dusting of seasoning did make them extra yummy.
