Raja Foods Marlborough — Restaurant in Calgary

We love Raja’s food and have been coming here regularly for breakfast. But today’s experience pushed me to finally write a review — not to bash the restaurant, but to hopefully get the owner’s attention.

We ordered halwa puri and qeema. The puris that arrived were hard, cold, and stiff — not remotely fresh. When we told the server they looked inedible, she casually told us to order more. I replied that they should be replaced, since we hadn’t touched them and they clearly weren’t up to standard. She said she’d check.

About 10–15 minutes later, another server came by and said they’d replace the puris. But they never came. For over 30 minutes we waited, repeatedly trying to get someone’s attention. Nothing. Meanwhile, our qeema and sabzi sat on the table getting cold. Out of sheer hunger and frustration, my husband began eating with his hands while we waited. We’d also ordered lassis, which never arrived. I had to go to the kitchen myself and remind them.

Finally, 40+ minutes later, new puris arrived — but by then our meal was nearly over and our appetite gone. We felt neglected, dismissed, and incredibly disappointed.

This is not a one-off incident — the service at Raja’s has always been weak. The food keeps us coming back, but today was the tipping point.

Here’s my honest suggestion to the owner: You have something special here. The food is good. But you must invest in properly training your staff. Right now, it feels like a group of untrained family or neighborhood hires with no understanding of service standards, hospitality, or urgency. There’s no leadership on the floor. No ownership. Just lots of “sorry” with no solution.

As professionals in the hospitality industry ourselves, we know: A good meal is ruined by poor service. And bad service is usually a symptom of poor systems and no training.

Please take this seriously. We want Raja’s to thrive — but the current experience feels more like someone’s chaotic home kitchen than a professional...

We, group of five friends, recently had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast at Raja Foods and I can confidently say it was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had in Calgary desi restaurants. This gem offers an authentic taste of Pakistani traditional breakfast with service that sets a new standard for excellence. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome. The warmth and hospitality extended by the servers and the owner lady were unparalleled. They were attentive without being intrusive, and their knowledge of the menu was impressive. The efficiency and friendliness of the service truly enhanced our dining experience. The breakfast is nothing short of spectacular. Each dish was a perfect representation of traditional Pakistani morning fare, bursting with authentic flavors and made with the freshest ingredients. The parathas were golden, flaky, and perfectly cooked, ideal for pairing with the rich and savory nihari. The halwa puri platter was a highlight, with fluffy puris served alongside sweet, aromatic halwa, tarkari and spicy chana masala. Every bite transported us to the bustling streets of Lahore, where traditional breakfasts is a cherished ritual.

Highly recommended for anyone seeking an authentic taste of Pakistani breakfast served with exceptional hospitality.For best experience come early before it gets busy. Five stars...

Update: Tried and tested for catering events and they delivered beyond expectations yet again. Raja Foods not only serves one of the best foods in town (specially the breakfast) but has been right on the mark with the catering orders as well. This update is driven not only by my personal views but also the fact that I was categorically asked about where I ordered the food from at an event since everybody was full of praise for the taste and quality of food.

It is now my go to place for catering orders and will always be a go to place for some delicious weekend breakfast.

I've always been a fan of their food, from the weekend breakfast to everyday dining. They have always been up to the mark. Recently was the first time when I catered from them for our daughter's birthday. The management was very helpful and accommodating. They ensured me that I did not have to worry about the quality and rightly so. Everybody enjoyed the food at the party which was great to know.
