Truly disappointed in our first and probably last visit. Phoned and was told that most people dressed up, that was not the case, people in hoodies and shorts. The biggest surprise was the bill. We stayed with Canadian wine(which was the cheapest) and had two bottles. In between bottles we switched to glasses as we were not sure of staying for the music(we were charged $20 for that privilege). When the bill arrives we found out the server had chosen the most expensive option of wine at $28 a glass, not sure how we ended up with the most expensive wine. The disappointment of a night was the mains. My steak and the chicken dinner were not great, certainly not a chairman’s steak. The other issue in this, the tiny table we had and all tables crammed together. We were on a table that was barely big enough for 2 plates, thankfully the table next to us was a table for 4 but only 2 sat there, anytime the the lady wanted the washroom, we got a face full of backside due to how tight the tables are packed together. Chairman’s is our favourite and probably the most expensive restaurant, it’s always worth it. We have never spent this amount of money at the chairman’s. Lesson learnt, stick to what you know.
EDIT UPDATE: A truly unprofessional reply by the manager. I question the accountability of dismissing the fact the server made a decision of company profiteering from choosing the most expensive wine by the glass, even though we only wanted Canadian wine, clearly the manager sees no wrong in that. I also questioned the fact that we were celebrating a special night, why should we ask to be moved. Most restaurants would put clients on good tables, the fact is, there probably are not good tables at this establishment. The managers response is indicative of today’s environment. No care about the customers, just profit and profit by deception on the looks of it. Lesson learnt. Should have believed the reviews...
Read moreFor $250 including a $50 tip, it was something. I never under tip wait staff but I can tell you she did not earn such a tip.
I got there at 8:45, my date was already sat with a drink in hand.
Nothing wrong per say but nothing good. Waited 10 mins to order a drink, she ping ponged her section and tables that sat after us got drinks and appies before us, literally a table right beside me…. it was a thursday! Forgot to last call for food or she never would have sold the entrees which we do regret buying.
The oysters were amazing, the tartare was sweet and bland at best, definitely sub par. crisps were cute.
Entrees were underwhelming a “6oz” steak and a salad for $40? The surf and turf was atrocious, its still in my fridge I could not eat or enjoy it, but didnt have the heart to tell her so I boxed it up. The scallops over cooked and tiny, the braised beef, braised so long it makes me question life choices. veggies under seasoned, etc. Just abysmal.
The band was the real kicker……. we were sat close to the bar but way too close to the band, now as someone who has spent their life in service from all aspects including performance events….. well then: too loud, singer over powered the room, ruining the date, you could hear her in China….. good songs, but acoustics off. The drunks at the bar disagreed with overwhelming applause but I have a feeling some of the people sitting their might be the owners…..saw them behind the bar as we left…..
So Canadian of me not to complain but it was first date, but maybe thats why we cant have change……
I will most likely not be coming back for quite sometime if ever. Ive spent more money on dates but they rocked my world, this one made me question if my life will get better.
Please do better Marriott, youve dropped the...

There was no notice of the closure on the website, which otherwise has frequent updates. We only go there to dance so wasted a 25 minute drive each way. We decided we might as well eat since we there anyway and to make the experience even worse the food was slow and over-cooked and the musician "Ben Rose" was excellent, by far the best we've heard there, but you can't dance on a carpet.
It's not like baseball - in the food and bev game, one strike, you're out, we won't be back, I'm not dealing with a place I have to phone in advance to make sure everything is working.
**Old review follows
We went there on a recommendation from a fellow ballroom dancer who said the setting, food, drinks and service were good and the music acceptable.
The food, drinks and service were better than 'good', they were actually excellent. Compliments to all the staff, especially Tait and the female bartender whose name I didn't quite catch when she told me.
The music was very good if a bit too loud.
The only issue, minor, was the dance floor which was made of glass squares with some small but perceptible ridges between them. Glass is no good as a dance floor, it's too 'sticky' and the ridges make it worse. Glass was used because it can be underlit which looks cool, but a plain smooth hardwood sprung floor would have been better for actual dancing, which requires a slippery floor for glides and spins.
No big deal, we made do and danced a lot. Compliments to "The Calverts",...
