Saigon Maxim (Riverbend) — Restaurant in Calgary

Its hard to write this review because we have eaten here a few times and had take out often. We came here last night as we had an long day of hard work and wanted some pho to unwind. We looked on Google maps to see what was still open and saigon maxim was open until 9. We arrived at 745 . There was one waitress behind the bar. She looked over at us and did not greet us. Looked like she was cleaning counters. She turned her back to us and it almost looked like she was eating? We waited for a long time. A waiter came out with a garbage bag and walked pasted us and did not acknowledge. There was 2 other tables we could see that were eating. We waited over 10 minutes to be sat. The girl behind the counter yelled is it for 2? And pointed at the corner table. We went over and waited for menus for another 5 minutes. It was well after 8pm now. That waiter from before brought over menus but he literally tossed them on the table and the slid across. It was super off putting. If we wouldn't have been so hungry and tired we would have left. We waited other 5 minutes to order. The waiter came back and just stood there and didn't say a word while we ordered we said please and thanks. Not 1 single word from him. As we waited for the food he would walk by and stare at us. Another table of 2 girls came in after us and were greeted right away and served wine. We didn't get food until just slightly before 830. There was a short black hair stuck in my lime for my soup. No one came to check. We stopped the waiter and asked for a fork. He dropped that on the table almost the same way he did the menus. My boyfriend wanted to say something or ask if he was mad. We decided not to say anything. When we were done we went to the counter and waited to pay. The waitress came over quick for payment, of course.

I'm not sure if we were treated badly because we came in late? Or if it was something else. But it was reflected in the tip. Usually when we come we are greeted so nice and treated well especially by one female staff member, I saw her on the way out (she was no where to be seen before so we thoight she wasnt there) and wanted to comment on the experience but we were tired and quite upset so we decided to leave and leave a review. My wife and I have been eating here since we first came in Canada last 2016. We always love their tons of food selections and fine-dining look of the place. Some of our favourites are the seafood satay, spring roll, shrimp roll, and chicken wings. We also tried other choices in their menu and everything was really satisfying! This is our go-to place whenever we wanted to treat ourselves or to celebrate some happy events in our lives and with no doubt, we always go home with a very happy tummy. But couple of weeks ago, this restaurant suddenly felt like a home to us. We met Ty, the manager, and he was so good to check and ask us on how the food tasted just like in any other restaurants. But what really struck me was how he gave his busy time just to let us know more about the food that they are serving. He really explained and emphasized that his customers health is his major priority in considering the ingredients that they use in their recipes. I really felt how sincere his words are. He made us feel that we are being cared for and valued not only as customers, but as friends. I’ve been recommending this restaurant to all my friends and families for the last 3 years because of their excellent menu and now, I have more important reasons to do so. Very palatable food, affordable price, super cozy place, and above all a fantastic/customer-centered management, this place is a must-try! Subukan niyo mga kabayan! I give it 10 stars....

Unfortunately last night we all came here and were super disappointed with the service and the food, so my five star is now at 2.... we had to ask for the tea that we ordered, 4 times!!!!. Our friend waited 25 minutes for an order of salad rolls!!! I'm not exaggerating. He openly admitted that he forgot to tell the girls to make it. I had to get up and go and ask for a fork and a spoon. I had Soup!!!! Our water was empty the whole time. And the restaurant was empty. Our table of 10 plus an additional 8 tables max eating in. There were three staff members working. Completely unacceptable. Number 36, the beef tasted boiled. There was Zero saute taste. The area wherever make the side of bean sprouts and basil, and their bubble tea, was extremely messy. She was using the phone and then dipping her hands into the bowl of bean sprouts with no gloves on. Do you know how many germs are on a phone that multiple people use throughout the day to take orders??? I've been coming here for years and I've told so many people about this place but last night left me very disappointed. I'll probably have to take a break from coming here for quite a while

3 years ago: Always so good!! I always get #36. Huuuge portions. Hearty. Tasty beef. Spring rolls. Service is excellent. Yummm. Been coming here about 5 years....
