After getting told this was a top 3 shawarma place in Calgary and having people say it's absolutely great my friend and I decided to give it a try..... We walked in the door and it smelled good in there , the guy at the front was busy wrapping 2 shawarmas that looked half decent we patiently waited our turn to order.... We each ordered a mixed chicken/beef wrap which each cost $18.00 we picked what veggies we wanted and then noticed...... The man at the front reached into a steam tray and grabbed beef out of there , why not grill it fresh ??? He didn't add any chicken so we only paid for beef donairs $15.00 at least we didn't get charged for the mixed wrap... Having had to wait a very long time to receive our wraps , we took them to go , with some expectations that these would be great from what we'd heard from others about this place , neither of us were convinced anymore.......
We then started eating the wraps ..... As the gelly consistency meat rolled around my pallet I was met with just about instantaneous disappointment , this was not a good donair , not even top 50 it was flavorless and spongy similar to boiled hotdog meat . I will never be back to shawarma king Kensington location, or any other that shares the name ...
To add insult to injury while the man in the front seemed flustered and overworked we noticed two other gentlemen in the back of the place talking and carrying on offering their co worker absolutely no help to speed things along......
Unfortunately there are many shawarma places in Calgary that share the very same attitude and shawarma king was no exception , they promise a great fresh product and end up pulling some steam tray meat out of a steam tray that has been sitting in there for God knows how long , and it being flavourless and not worth the money ..... While one guy out front struggles to keep up with demand in the front , there are people in the back that could be grilling some fresh tasty meat for all the customers ....
I've tried a lot of shawarmas and donairs in my time on this earth and this one unfortunately doesn't come close to being decent , thoroughly unimpressed by the boiled hotdog mystery meat and will never be back .....
Now before you lose all your customers from the present and the future lose the steam tray , it's not fresh , it's not good , in fact it's a waste of time and money 💰
I don't recommend this place to any one , for it is haphazardly put together and just another shawarma place in Calgary that cuts corners and demands top rate for...
Read moreI will start this by saying this is my favourite donair shop in Calgary. I come here usually once a week. I showed up specifically at 10am this morning to get a donair before football Sunday. No “open” lights were on at 10:10am so I decided to see if the sign was just forgotten to be turned on. I recognize the owner but this was not him this morning, I asked if I could order and he said no and would not be ready for 20-30 minutes. So even though opening hours is at 10am he was not going to be ready until almost 11, 1 hour past opening hours. This was an extreme inconvenience as I drove 20 minutes just for Shawarma King and had to take my business somewhere else because they couldn’t open the store on time let alone 1 hour late. I’m not sure if the owner is aware of this employee and their unprofessionalism and tardiness. So I’m hoping he see’s this. Again, I love this establishment, but whoever was working this morning was extremely late, and is unprofessional with...

Ugh, i really like the food, but they keep messing up the orders. I won't be ordering from here again.
I need to preface this that I don't really like the delivery apps. I think most of them are parasitic to the actual business. That being said, my work has provided Uber Eats vouchers during covid instead of in-person ones. I've probably ordered from here 10-20 times. One order they missed the note for no onions, but i'm not going to lose my mind about it. I really really love their chicken marinade. It's special. I want to say it leans towards moroccan...maybe cinnamon or cloves? I can't place it, but it tastes excellent! My coworker bff is muslim so we've hit every halal shawarma place in and around the downtown core, and this place stands out. The owner is super friendly. Worth a visit if you're in the area, definitely worth a visit if you've had a few beers and you have to spend free uber eats vouchers...
