Plenty of options, tasty broth, and great portions make this a top ramen pick in Calgary. ——— Muku was recommended to us by friends and we came in to try it on a Sunday afternoon around 4:00 pm; decently busy but the two of us were able to be seated right away with no reservation. The pleasant smell of the broth hit us right away as we entered; the kitchen is open to the cozy dining areas which is a nice touch. Drink options are fairly limited but typical for ramen restaurants; the beer selection had Sapporo on draft (I highly recommend it) as well as canned Asahi and bottled Kokkanee. We didn’t order any starters but did have the combo set which added a choice of rice dish and the green salad to the ramen; for this we chose the chashu (bbq pork) rice. My ramen was the tonkotsu chashu wonton ramen with spicy sauce, corn, and ajitsuke tamago (ramen egg). My partner chose the ninja koku-miso because it was seemingly the only one on the menu which came with bamboo shoots. She added an egg to hers as well. Overall we found the broth to be flavourful, if a little thin, but the noodles had a decent amount of chewiness and took up the soup well. The serving size and topping portion was very generous. The chashu was really nice; more on the lean side (as opposed to fatty meat) compared to other establishments we have been to. My partner really enjoyed the green salad which came with a light vinaigrette-sesame style sauce. I loved the chashu rice which reminded me of a nice rice ball in bowl form. Overall we really enjoyed the meal and speed of service. Muku lived up to our expectations and I believe it provides great taste and value to its patrons. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a filling and flavourful meal.

i’ve been to muku many many times, and at one point i would say it was my favourite ramen place in calgary. i’ve had ramen in japan, so the standards are quite high! however, the past few times i’ve been here it seems the quality of the food has gone down a bit? at muku, i usually get the exact same thing everytime (half order tonkatsu with sukiyaki rice combo), but maybe i need to try a different base next time? i remember in the past, the sukiyaki beef was so moist and oozing with flavour, i would literally save it for last cause it was that good - but it seems it’s just not the same now sadly! it’s more dry now. i also added a tamago egg to my ramen - it was not runny and almost fully boiled :( the char siew has always been quite dry imo. never been a big fan of it here. i prefer the wonton. we also had the agedashi tofu as an appetizer and it was tasty. i would try more appetizers for sure. i do like the pricing and portions. it’s very fair - usually i struggle to finish a normal sized ramen, but the half size combo is perfect for me! i wish they would offer this option at more ramen places! i believe they don’t split the bill if you’re coming with others (not sure if they’ve changed this), so be aware of this or plan accordingly! overall there aren’t really amazing ramen options in calgary, but if you’re having a craving i’d still give this place a try - it is still one of the better places here

What ana amazing date location, not only was the food absolutely Incredible, so incredible we dined without snapping a pic of the appetizers we ordered (calamari and pork gyoza) but the tables were well mad rup all condiments (chili oil and spice mix) were full on every table the kitchen is open and after asking twice to be sure I grabbed a photo the menu does leave out certain things like the calamari I got was served with roe which just to my personal taste I don't like but ate around. The staff was very attentive and checked in often the ramen bowls we got were incredible it's my 3rd time trying proper ramen and I wasn't disappointed especially by the pork belly perfectly fried and the soy eggs perfectly medium poached adding a nice umami flavour we will definitely be returning and doesn't break the bank with appetizers ranging from $6 5-pork gyoza to $12 12pc-calamari and for regular soups around $12-$15 great price for the quality and quantity I want to thank the staff as I am allergic to crustaceans (only eating) ie shrimp crab but with what I dined on nothing seemingly had crustaceans and incase I passed the Naruto spirals to my girlfriend incase they contained shrimp paste but it also shows that the kitchen staff maintains cleanliness and prevention of cross contamination. Thanks for the amazing food and experience!

I used to go to Muku all the time whenever I was in town. But lately, I think the quality of service has gone down. The Ramen is well cooked, the soups tasty, not too expensive - a standard bowl of ramen soup will run you 9 to 11 dollars. But I don't see myself going out of my way to go there again next time i'm in town. I'm not a big meat eater. I realise that when you go to a japanese soup restaurant you'll get broth with a fish and chicken base, and I was willing to put up with that - but not a single ramen dish there had tofu, or just veggies, or something besides big slabs of meat (pork or chicken mostly) in it. So ok, no problem, I picked the simplest one and simply asked if I could have it without the meat and maybe they could just give me a bit more cabbage instead. NO WAY. Oh, they were happy to serve it to me without the meat, but if I wanted extra cabbage they were going to charge me an extra dollar. Are you serious? I would like you to exclude the most expensive ingredient and you're going to charge me a buck for what amounted to 10grams more of the cheapest ingredient. This, I thought, was seriously lousy customer service. If you go there, and you're not a meat eater, you can choose the seaweed salad. that's it. not even on with a side of noodles - it doesn't exist. Another thing is that they won't let you split up the bill - so if you're going with friends, you need to work it out yourself, you cant pay separately . Anyway, that's the deal there now. And I don't even think the soup is as good as...

first of all, i am from out of town, Edmonton to be exact. So i dont come here on a regular basis. But since we found this place to be "the best ramen house in Calgary" we always make sure to drop by. . We love the food here. I always order the tonkatsu with wonton and the shrimp dumpling. Broth is a little salty but still ok. The reason im writing this review is because of the experience i just had yesterday, i came there with my family and my mom, so it is quit a big group. But we didnt order anything fancy because we are on a budget. I just didnt like the way the manager talked to me when i paid our bill. I felt humiliated, he came up to our table to clean it up, and he told me that the bill did not include any tip and he told me to add tip next time. Maybe he meant that since we came in in quit a group that they will be doing a lot more serving and cleaning after. There were only 3 adults and 3 toddlers aged 3 years old. I get it that they have to give us high chairs and extra plates for the kids, but isnt that part of customer service? we didnt order anything for the kids because we will just share what ever we order, since kids dont eat much. I just feel that giving tips should not be mandatory, because you dont know where people are coming from. Dont get me wrong,i also work in a food industry and most of the time people dont tip. We all want decent food thats why we go to restaurants and such. But for average people like me, we dont eat out all the time. After what happened yesterday i dont think we will be...
