This place is long standing but I'm not exactly sure why. For the sake of value, the food isn't outstanding but you're paying an outstanding price. The sushi rice was terribly overcooked and the fish didn't have the quality one would expect for the cost, specifically the Octopus and Salmon. There was decent attention to the balance of flavours in the rolls we got, but the technique was clearly lacking as nothing felt cohesive. So it all comes down to the service and atmosphere to make up the difference and that was its own shortfalling. The restaurant itself is relatively clean and has an okay aesthetic, but it's the details that disappoint deeply. Lights not working, sticky tables and terribly designed bathroom layout. Any one of these alone isn't a problem, but all together, it makes for a disappointing experience when you're easily paying $30 per person before drinks or tipping. The expectation is that you're at least having a great experience, but even the rolls were lovelessly thrown into plates with no thought or expression to be found in any of the dishes. Looked no different than Kinjo sushi but with a much higher price tag. Service itself was friendly and had an approachable attitude which was appreciated! The rest of this experience was best described as strongly mid. I would recommend AVOIDING this place as it is nothing more than a distraction amongst all of the truly exceptional sushi restaurants in this city.

My husband and I have been a customer of Globefish Kensington for about 5 years. We often order sushi rolls for special occasion, but once a while we will order as a treats. We wanna keep the luxury of their sushi in our mind. We often order the Party Plater for take out and tried some others when we are dine in. The party plater has many rolls, we often have it as 4 meals for both of us. We recently found out that we could choose what kind of rolls in the plater (that’s awesome!!) now they have their own apps to place an online order (even better!!) the apps is really user friendly. Since they are local business, I often placed order by phone. The staff are always friendly, welcoming and helpful. The food is always good. That’s the reason why we keep our business with them. Just like any other business, we had an off experience, but instead of whining and complaining, we reach out the team. They care and concern with their product, they respond our feedback really well. And we have noticed that they really care with their quality of product and service. We have seen the improvement. This place is highly recommended. try their Cat’s eye roll and Autumn Roll. it’s delicious.. Well done Globefish Kensington Team.. be safe and keep up the good work :-)

I remember my first time tried Globefish about 10 years ago in this location. It used to be really good and their special rolls were something. I’v been to Macleod location by Chinook mall and it was pretty good as well. Today, we were craving sushi on our way back home so decide to stop by for pick up order. We ordered spicy salmon roll, crazy buster, ghost buster, triple threat rolls, salmon, chopped scallop and amaebi sushi. It was disappointing. Rice was so thick, it taste like tnt sushi. Thick and overcooked, but less vinegary than tnt but still it was bad. Both sushi and roll rice was so thick and bad. Crazy buster used to be my fav but not anymore. First time trying ghost buster and triple thread, again that thick over cooked sticky and mushy rice was over taking the flavour. Crazy buster’s tempura was mushy so i couldn't feel the crispness texture. Lost it’s touch or one time thing? I dont know.. employee was nice and polite when we were there and they welcomed us and showed willing to help with nice smile but when I pay for food at the restaurant, flavour or quality of food is the first thing and service and atmosphere comes next. So I won’t be going back to this location anymore.

Globefish Kensington is the BEST Globefish in Calgary; don't even bother going to the other ones who have different menus, less options for allergies, and worse service.

At Globefish Kensington I have had nothing but consistently AMAZING, INCREDIBLE service from their staff. They're always so friendly and personable, and every time I've ordered from them they've gone above and beyond normal expectations.

I've mostly done take-out. One time it was a hot day and I was riding my bike. I have a large cooler bag I can strap to the rear rack. I ordered a large platter plus many other additional dishes to take to a family member's house. The Globefish staff, instead of putting the platter order in the wide container usually used for take-out platter orders, separated the rolls into smaller containers for me so I could load everything into my cooler bag.

Another time, and the only time I ordered through Door Dash, I was having a hard day. When I made the order, in the special request box I asked for, "as much extra ginger as is reasonable. I had a hard day and need to drown my sorrows in pickled root vegetable." BOY. Did the wonderful Globefish staff pull through. They sent me a ludicrous (but good) amount of extra ginger. I LOVE yellow pickled ginger and I've been finding it hard to find at the Asian markets. With the amount they sent me I was able to save the remainder in the fridge for later.

I am a celiac. Globefish Kensington has never failed to ensure my meals are gluten free and safe from cross contamination. They are one of a very few sushi places that actually have GLUTEN FREE TEMPURA, which is delicious and incredible and makes me very happy.

Yesterday I went for dine-in. They followed the Covid restrictions perfectly without making the experience itself feel sterile. They were still incredibly friendly and happy even though I can only imagine the difficulties and stress they face with the new restrictions. Jesse (male server) was so bubbly and friendly. One of the friends I was with is also a celiac, and Jesse made sure the kitchen knew of our very serious condition.

When we left Jesse gave me a to-go container of ginger, and even though I insisted, he didn't charge me for it.

Globefish Kensington will have my...

To Business Management of Globefish Sushi & Izakaya,

I and my Chinese companions are a bunch of happy early retirees and regular customers patronizing your restaurants for the past two years at all locations in Calgary.

Recently we had the most negative luncheon experience visiting your Kensington location on a Thursday when we received the most unfriendly and unwelcoming treatment by the Chinese-speaking server.

The incident took place when we finished our lunch and briefly shared a tiny “moon-cake” with my Chinese lunch-mates as our celebration of the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival. Not only your staff member was showing her disrespect to her fellow countrymen and her zero appreciation of Chinese culture and rituals, her using of harsh language conversing with them and her body gestures clearly demonstrated her mean-spirited nature and her discriminating demeanor towards Asian customers in general even this Japanese customer can relate.

As your fellow countryman, I would like to draw your special attention to this incident as area of improvement to your business. Although we will continue visiting your restaurants, may I suggest your immediate correction and disciplinary actions? A sincere apology from business management or an obvious change of attitude greeting Asian customers by this particular staff member on our next visit will suffice.

On behalf of my Chinese friends, should there be no improvement after this citing, it is my intention launching our campaign against your business through major social media and publications of restaurants critics in Calgary to express our displeasure over...

Globe Fish, Globe Fish, Globe Fish. You have done it again. I tried Globe Fish for the first time on the recommendation of my brilliant therapist, who I have been seeing for almost two years now. Throughout that time, she has recommended practices and habits that have transformed my life. The recommendation of Globe Fish, however, transcends even the most life-altering of her suggestions. This was my associate and I’s second time in the glorious, warm, and welcoming atmosphere of Globe Fish Kensington, and we were far from disappointed. In fact, the only real disappointment about this restaurant is the fact that our bodies become full and we cannot eat any more of the delicacies that it beholds. We ordered a drink each, along with the pork gyoza, assorted tempura, alaska roll, autumn roll, and yam tempura roll. While all of the dishes were a pleasure for the senses, the gyoza and the autumn roll, I daresay, made me see God (I am an atheist). I know little about pork beyond what my tastebuds care to share, and what they whispered to me over our meal this evening was something I had never heard before. Though filling, tasty, and deliciously flavoured, the pork gyoza is light and soft in an almost flirtatious way. And the autumn roll. To have such an eloquent and harmonious mixture of textures and flavours in my mouth all at once was akin to feeling the love of another for the first time. Long story long, Globe Fish is THE place to go for sushi that will transform not only your day, but also your life one...
