Tandoori Kabab Hut — Restaurant in Calgary

Been a customer a half dozen times or so. Food has been ok, nothing to rave about. Location is convenient as we live nearby. Butter chicken very bland. However my rating is not based on the food but rather the service. We have always been polite and tipped well but noticed the owners are very cold towards us. No smiles, greetings etc. We thought they are just very reserved. Our last visit revealed something very disturbing. Restaurant was empty when we arrived and placed our order. Took a seat and approximately 5-10 mins later a group of 6 people arrive. They are of the same or similar nationality as the owner. He rushes out to greet them and take their order, after which they cook their order and come out three times bringing the different dishes they’ve ordered never once looking at or acknowledgeding us. After 30-40 mins of waiting for our food we got up quietly and left. It was suddenly glaringly clear these people do not want white people as customers and so many things suddenly made sense about our previous visits. The cold reception, long waits, and mediocre food....shameful discrimination! Will not darken...

This is a small, family owned restaurant that does mostly take-out but also has a dining area with 4 tables inside - nothing fancy, but it’s clean and comfortable. From what I have seen, the one gentleman, his wife and his or her mother run the entire operation. They are friendly, helpful and kind and always offer to help me carry the food out to my car when there are more than 2 bags. They pack the food very well, nothing is squished or leaking. The food is perfectly prepared, delicious and satisfying. Their prices are very reasonable. My daughter absolutely loves their tandoori fish kabob. It has marinated and spiced tender white fish inside a freshly baked naan with veggies and sauce and it’s absolutely divine. We are Caucasian but can handle a bit of spiciness, and the level of hot is perfect for us. They don’t always have desserts, as they make rice pudding once a week and sell out quickly, but if they do have it, it will be the best rice pudding you’ve tasted. I always get food from here either in person or via SkiptheDishes. It's one of those hidden gems of the neighbourhood. The prices are really reasonable. It is authentic Pakistani food at its best!! The restaurant and bathroom is always clean. Their goat and lamb dishes are especially succulent and delicious.
