Tea Trader — Restaurant in Calgary

I popped into Tea Trader today for the second time and again I had a wonderful experience. First the staff, they are delightful. They enjoy working there and it shows. They are fun and good at what they do. The first time I went in, I had them design a Russian Caravan tea reminiscent of a tea my mother use to drink. a robust, smokey, black tea with a hint of vanilla. They did an amazing job. So I went back today and there neatly stored under my name was the designer tea that they created for me. I brought it home with no expectations, but it was absolutely perfect. I didn't know much about good tea, so I sought out some expert advice a few years back at Tea Trader. My sister is really into tea and had a whole list of preferences - all greek to me - but I was expertly guided to choose the Emerald Lake Chai and Eight Bells blends as Christmas gifts. Both were a big hit, and now I get requests for these specific flavours every time I go back home. I've always been more of a coffee person myself, but I recently tried the Toffee Cream Rooibos and OMG it was enough to make me a lot more tea-curious. I stopped in while wandering the area on holiday. The staff person at the time was busy helping a couple select teas from the shelf behind the counter and seemed well versed in where the teas were from, how they had been treated, and made comparisons on flavour profiles between different teas when brewed. If I had more time I probably would have stopped to find something new for myself but had to move on. The selection of tea related merchandise was also extensive with backgrounds on why different pots are made from different materials and with different shapes. Quite the place!
