First rate restaurant is the least of what a person can say about this place. We were there for an event and it was a memorable experience. A wonderful mix of modern lines and vintage elegance, the Wednesday Room knows how to make a sophisticated evening no matter the occasion. Perhaps a person could get lucky and spot a movie star. It would be the place to find them after all.
The food is warm, rich, and inviting. Each bite was ecstasy from their small bites of mushroom tartare and tomato burrata to the main course of creamy mushroom risotto that melts in your mouth, and the apple crumble for dessert which shows that sweet and spicy make the perfect marriage. Sure this is a pricy place but you do get what you pay for.
The service is the best you can get. The servers and bartenders knew their stuff. They knew the answers to our questions like what is vegetarian, what ingredients were in what dish, and were mindful of people's allergies. Not only that but they treated all of us with kindness. They were friendly, accommodating, and served all of us with a smile. This is a place where you can spend an evening with people who genuinely want you there.
A restaurant with a fascinating history, an event space for a office party, and a romantic place for a first date is what the Wednesday Room is clearly for. Who says that "Wednesday's child is full of woe?" when you have a room that is not just tasteful and winsome but approachable and inclusive? If you are looking for a deserving reward after a hard weeks of work then make a stop here. After all, "All work...
Read moreCame here a few weeks ago and was happy with the food, service and experience. This positive experience was likely due to it being a slower day. I decided to book again and went yesterday to recommend to friends but was very disappointed.
There was no hostess, we were waiting for 10 minutes to get seated. No one was upstairs at all. When we finally went down, we ordered our drinks and ended up waiting 40 minutes to get our drinks. I could see them made on the bar counter and they were sitting there for at least 20 minutes.
One of our mains came before any of our drinks even did, and we were told that because of a new system and they were understaffed that our mains were coming first and appetizers were going to come 15 minutes later. It wasn't that busy of a night, but it does seem like they only had one server who also seemed relatively new. Our server was apologetic and we were understanding, but the hostess who dropped off the main first before anything else was not apologetic nor explained why a main was coming first.
Towards the end of our meal, they suddenly were having a professional flash photography photoshoot. I am not sure if this was by the company or if it was an engagement sort of thing but It was very odd as several of the pictures had us thinking we would be in the back of them, and the flash continuously went off at us. I have no idea why they wouldn't do the photoshoot post service or why they restaurant allowed this while guests were dining.
Really not sure what's going on with...
Read moreEnjoyed the YYC Exp prix fixe menu tonight. Our table of 6 tried all items. I ate the tuna tartare, octopus & pork belly, and creme brule. In general it was pretty tasty. The main courses were not as good as appies and desserts.
Appies: steak tartare - everyone seemed to really enjoy it, no complaints tuna tartare - really enjoyable. Well balanced flavours and textures. I would rate as 8/10
Mains: risotto - everyone who ordered this left a good amount on their plates. General consensus was it was lacking flavour and too large of a portion. 5/10 octopus and pork belly - octopus was well cooked, though small portion. Large hunk of pork belly, that was quite lean and possibly overcooked. Accompaniments on the plate were delightful. 7/10
Desserts: passionfruit tart - delish, no one talked while eating this. 10/10 cardamom creme brule - great cardamom flavour, on the sweet side, but very tasty. Custard was perfect consistency. I ordered a decaf espresso with it as I heard the biscotti was hard. It worked well. 10/10
Overall decent price for the meal. Drinks were expensive though. I had 2 drinks and an espresso for nearly the price of the meal. The negroni noir with squid ink was tasty.
Not sure the service was good enough for auto gratuity though. We were a table of 6 and server was the only server upstairs(which was full) and also doubling as the bartender. Solid 10% quality tip, but we were forced to pay 18%. Meh, sign of the...
