I have been to this restaurant twice before (both over a year ago) and had amazing experiences both times. However, unfortunately I cannot say the same for this visit. The server that served us did not know the menu and couldn’t understand anything my niece and I were asking. When a male server then came to answer our questions he was extremely rude, being short and speaking down to us. I took my niece there because of the entertainment factor of the dinner and sadly and extremely disappointing, our chef cooked in entire silence the entire time. On top of that our meal was absolutely horrible, vegetables overcooked and extremely over-peppered, and the shrimp was overcooked and rubbery. I had ordered us a calamari “appetizer”, that arrived half way through our meal, not an appetizer at all. Once the chef was done cooking he walked away and we were not checked on again. Our plates weren’t cleared and we waited for over 20 minutes (after being done eating) for our plates to be cleared, to be checked on and for our bill, that we never did receive. We left our plates pretty much untouched and at that time had to go to the counter in hopes of being acknowledged finally to pay the bill. We waited at the counter for another 10 minutes (being ignored by three waitstaff) to pay. When I was provided the bill of over $90 for food that was inedible, I at that time mentioned (couldn’t before because we were completely ignored) how disappointed I was with our meal and all the server said was “okay”, a response that indicates to me that they do not wish for their customers to return. Finally but not least, the other two times that I visited this restaurant, the dinner included the typical teppanyaki items (salad, miso soup, small shrimp appetizer, main meal, vegetables and ice cream) for one price. However, this visit was extremely frustrating as there is now no shrimp appetizer, hardly any vegetables and if you want ice cream it’s an additional $3.00. As well, the price was the same, if not more, than the other two times that I visited including the shrimp and ice cream. When I asked the chef if there was the shrimp he said “no, not since the new owner”. That cleared up everything as to why this experience was horrible, the food was inedible, there was not the entertainment factor during the cooking process, and the overall lack of care and attention from the staff. For that reason I will NEVER return to this “restaurant “?and will share with others of this extremely disappointment of a...
Read moreWe are always happy to discover new places to dine in our neighbourhood so we decided to give Kobe Teppanyaki Lounge a try. The person at the door seemed disappointed that we didn't have a reservation even though the place wasn't even half full. First impressions are important which was very evident when compared to a recent experience we had at another restaurant where a friendly hostess said "I'm sorry, we are booked up for tonight but I'll see if we can fit you in" (which she did). In this case, the hostess silently led us to some empty seats where the servers took over. Fortunately, they were more cordial.
Based on recent reviews, we had high expectations and, although the food was well cooked, it didn't come close in flavour and quality to other Japanese restaurants in town. The first thing I tasted was the salad and the dressing was so salty I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue with the meal. The miso soup was average and the steak, chicken and shrimp came with sauces which diners were encouraged to use to add flavor. They tasted like MSG was used in them and I was super thirsty afterwards. Not even the ice cream at the end could chase the aftertaste away which lasted for hours!
I think most people come for the show rather than the food and one of the two chefs was great but, unfortunately, he wasn't the one at our table. They were both nice and created photo ops of flames for the diners. However, once you've seen the routine the only reason to go back is if the food is stellar which, unfortunately, it isn't. As others have commented, the pricing is on the high side for what you get so there's no reason to go back when there are so many other great dining...
Read moreI recently celebrated my birthday at Tobe Teppanyaki Lounge with high hopes for a memorable evening. Unfortunately, my experience fell far short of expectations.
Despite marking the reservation as a birthday celebration, the chef's attention seemed to be directed elsewhere, particularly towards another couple celebrating an early Valentine's Day. While they received personalized attention, my husband and I were largely ignored, with minimal interaction beyond basic questions about our beef preferences.
We opted for the Valentine's Day set menu, with an upgrade to the beef, which was satisfactory, but the oversight of forgetting to serve us rice was disappointing. Moreover, the chef's performance appeared tailored towards the other couple, leaving us feeling neglected and overlooked.
Adding to the disappointment was the lackluster dessert, particularly the mochi ice cream, which tasted as though it had been freezer-burned, devoid of the usual creamy texture expected from such a treat.
What compounded the disappointment was witnessing other birthday celebrations taking place simultaneously, leading me to question why our experience differed so significantly.
Overall, this was undoubtedly my worst birthday dinner experience, especially considering the price paid. The lack of attention, oversight on orders, and poor dessert quality left much to be desired in terms of service and overall experience. With a bill exceeding $200, plus a 15% tip, the expectation for exceptional service and attention to detail was not met, leaving a sour taste on what should have been a...
