First time at the Rec Room, pretty interesting place. Decent beer and booze selection, food itself was pretty good. I had the fried chicken Caesar burger - it was delicious, although perhaps a little on the small side considering the price. But overall, I really enjoyed it. My companions had various items ranging from the calamari to pizza, all had nothing negative to say about the food, which is really good. Atmosphere is....interesting. Weird to be in a lounge like environment with alcohol being served around young children, was a bit getting used to. Am accustomed to be around loud drunk adults while at a lounge or a pub, but having children running around and screaming made for a less desirable environment. Arcade is pretty unique as well. Love the set and the game offerings, lots of new style video games made for a fun experience. Very very modern compared to the style of arcades I grew up with. Service - bar staff on 3rd floor were great, very friendly and professional. Our server for our table didn't mention he had included an 18% gratuity already on everyone's bill, and we all ended up tipping an additional 15-18%. Overall, I liked the experience. The modern style arcade, the setup, the service from the bar staff, the food. The only thing I didn't like were the children. The children made my experience similar to that of a night out at chuck e cheese rather than an adult night out with booze, video games, sports, pool, and friendship. Prefer if this was more an adults only place of business. Kids should be at chuck e cheese and adults should at the Rec Room. Edit: was there yesterday (feb 17) for a bday get together, table of 20. All had separate bills. Our server Brandon, when cashing us all out, didn't mention to anyone that he had already included an 18% gratuity, so a majority of us, not noticing added an additional 15%-18%, very unethical. Have never been to an establishment where the server included tip but didn't notify anyone and sat there and watched as we included an additional 15-20% gratuity. Checked with the party, and everyone said they weren't notified. Be careful!!! Lowered rating to 3 stars due to the unethical behavior.

So this is a pretty cool place. Ideal with kids as there is limited there just for adults, but kids with you and you will have a good time. Effectively you loadup some wrist bands with ”credits” which is done via a counter or machine with real money. You then use the credits on arcade games. Some of the games are classic arcade games - shooters, streetfighter, racers etc. Some of them are “ticket” games which can be collected and then exchanged for rubbish prizes. There is a bar there where you can have a drink and get food. There are also Table Tennis / ping pong tables and pool tables. And finally some multiplayer VR rooms. All in all we have a good time there. You can easily spend a couple of hours there but not much more than that. Most games were working and in pretty good order. Some were broken and some were in bad order, but on the whole, a good time was had. Our first trip was relatively close to opening. We had a full intro to the games and credit system via a host who was really helpful. It slowly got busier towards lunchtime but we could still get on everything. Our second visit was to use up remaining credits. And was at 2pm on a Friday afternoon. It was much busier, there were hardly any staff around and some of the games were hard to get on because of so many people. Only one woman working the VR and the prizes stall means you are queueing and waiting around quite a while for them.

We went there as a group. The ambiance was good and the interior is very modern. I wasn't very impressed by the service. Our guy server thought it was very confusing for him to deal with a big group with separate bills. For a place like this, having big groups paying separately shouldnt be something new. They should already have a system for situations like this. He was worried about givibg the food to the wrong person. But we know what we ordered so all they had to do is bring the food, announce the dish to the groups and give it to whoever claims for it. Though he did get every order and bill right ate the end. I liked our lady server. She comes by updating us when our order will come. Our orders took forever to arrive though but they arrive all at the same time. I asked if it's a busy night for them and he said yes but he said usually on a Friday and Saturday. It's Thursday today. How long has this been opened anyway? Big place = more people = lots of orders! The food wasnt that great as well. The porkchops were dry, bland, and tough! The bison lasagna tasted something that's made from home-which means nothing special. The calmares and pizza wasn't tasty. To compensate for the delayed food, they gave us wristbands that has $20 credits to us in the arcade area. I like the vibe and the the modern design but I'd prob won't come back here anymore.

Hello,

I am writing to express my disappointment with the Calgary Deerfoot Rec Room location. Our team was coming in to Calgary from out of town and I was looking at booking a year end wrap up party for my daughters team that included the whole team, their parents and siblings. The reservation would have included meals and appies for 50 children and adults, plus cocktails and we were looking to purchase wrist bands for the children. I attempted to book this team event via the online booking email, however nobody responded to my email. After 5 days of not hearing back, I called numerous times within business hours and was unable to get through after several attempts. After 6 days of waiting, I finally got through and spoke with an employee who advised that I had to email in to speak to the event coordinator. I advised that no one was replying, and requested a call back. She reluctantly took my information, however following nobody returned my call or responded to my email. The following day, I again called x5 times within business hours without my call being answered. On the 5th attempt the call was answered, at which point I requested to speak to the manager. I was placed on hold and then a man, claiming to be the manager came on. I explained the situation that no one was replying to my email and that we were looking at booking in for a party of 50 people in 4 days. The man took my telephone number and said that he would have someone call me within a few minutes. Following this call nobody returned my call nor has anyone ever responded to my email.

I am writing in, because this lack of customer service at the rec room is not acceptable. As a self-employed business owner myself, I would be disgusted if I knew that this was going on with my business. As a team event coordinator, I will not ever try to book or use the Rec Room going forward. We have several years left with extracurricular and frequently travel to Calgary for team events and our organization has multiple teams that travel. I will not be recommending the Rec Room to anyone, due to this experience or lack there of. Fortunately, I was able to book in with another company who...

Fallen from grace, broken, and overwhelmed by no-skill gambling machines.

Incredibly worn down with seemingly every 1 in 6 cabinets either out of order or not working properly. Physical games in particular (basketball, skeeball, throwing games) had an inexcusable number of machines down, and the ones that did “work” had issues that impeded gameplay(missing balls, balls getting stuck, guides out of place, missing parts, etc.)

Many machines would scan your card but not start the game, requiring a second scan to begin. Who knows how many times we were double charged on a machine; we decided it was not worth the time to fight for points back at customer service, but if you want to get the full value of the points you paid for prepare to do so.

An exorbitant number of cabinets locations have been filled by coin/marble pusher “games” which is insane. The Rec Room in Brentwood has more floor space and LESS of these gambling machines than this location. Better games could fill those slots while still making money for the location. (And of course none of these machines were broken)

This Rec Room has severely degraded since its debut. Broken machines, lower quality offerings, and no shortage of money sink opportunities with no reward.

The only plus I’ll give it is the staff who were friendly and diligent. Maintenance staff were working constantly to try and keep these machines in some degree of working order.

My family will not be back to this Rec Room in the foreseeable future. I do not recommend this Rec Room at all. It’s such a shame, it was so much fun before it was allowed to fall to such a state. Save your money, go...
