Yum Yum BBQ & Chicken Bowness — Restaurant in Calgary

Tried this place after reading a bunch of reviews. The food was above average for Korean chicken. We got one order of the whole yum yum chicken and one whole order of the shallot chicken with the combo #2 option along with two chicken burgers and large fries.

Customer service was okay - they seemed to be too busy to really take the time to answer any question that we had (we never ordered there before) and then basically ignored us afterwards. When we were given our food they forgot to give us our burgers so I had to turn back and wait to ask for same.

The chicken itself was a hit in our home. They were quite flavorful with a pretty good crunch to them. I noticed that there were a few pieces from each box where it was essentially bone with abit of meat on them which was somewhat disappointing. My husband joked that perhaps they took the meat from them to make the burgers.

I personally preferred the shallot chicken myself and appreciate that they took the effort to pack the shallots separately in a different container so it would not make the chicken soggy by the time we got home. The yum yum chicken was a gooey goodness that was pretty tasty as well. Fries wise it was average. They appear to be McCains crinkle cut fries lightly seasoned with a salt mixture similar to that of Hy's seasoning. The burgers were pretty good as well. They too had a pretty good crunch and texture to them.

I was fairly impressed that the leftovers held up the next day and were still "yummy"...

This place is the best! I probably go once a week. The owner is this lovely Korean man who is so nice. He knows my drink order so whenever I walk in the door he puts a Dr. Pepper in the bag.

As for the food, I defy you to find me a better fried chicken sandwich. The (spicy) chicken burger meal is simply the best out there. Fresh ingredients, generous piece of super crispy chicken, wonderfully balanced. Delicious. And the fries are so good. The seasoning he puts on there is.. mmm. What can one say? Words fail at this point. And so affordable it almost feels wrong. For the same price as a spicy chicken meal at Wendy's you get more food that is superior in every way, and made fresh to order. Lost 1 star due to service being a bit of a letdown. I know it can get busy, but there is No excuse for forgetting items purchased in a take out order.

I'm also pretty disappointed by the cheesy potatoes this time around. Barely any cheese powder to be found. They usually blow you away with their flavor, and this time, they were kinda just alright.

We live in a world where all it takes is a few bad reviews to ruin all the hard work these establishments bring to our taste buds. I hope this was a one-off, and things are better the next visit. And I say this honestly. I really do hope they get back up to...
