Café du Monde Crêperie — Restaurant in Cambridge

Ever since the Downtown Crepe Café in Kitchener closed a number of years ago, my wife & I have been hoping and looking for another creperie in Waterloo Region. Just recently, we stumbled across Café du Monde Crêperie in Cambridge. Apparently they’ve been open for about 2 years already, so why did it take us so long to find it?!! Maybe it’s because they’re located in a rather unusual place, a little medical plaza off Coronation Blvd, just past the Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Not exactly where you’d expect to find such a business but, on the other hand, also very appropriate because if you’re feeling poorly, the welcoming atmosphere, the friendly service, the relaxing French background music, and the delicious food in this establishment will soon have you rejoicing and smiling with contentment!

My wife & I could hardly believe our good fortune upon arriving here in mid-morning on a weekday and discovering that we were the only customers in the place! This gave me a chance to talk with the friendly & welcoming owner, Nadia, and get to know her a little better before more customers arrived. Nadia left a career with a large company in order to be her own boss and open this restaurant. And while she works harder and longer hours than before, she absolutely loves what she’s doing and it shows! Helped by her mother in the kitchen, they whip up both sweet & savoury crepes, waffles, pizza, wraps, and salads, served along with variety of coffee & tea, and even a couple of flavours of ice cream if you can make it as far as dessert.

My wife ordered the breakfast crepe with two eggs, three strips of bacon, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, and aioli. I opted for the savoury Mediterranean crepe, featuring chicken breast, feta cheese, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, chives, and avocado tzatziki. Oh. My. Goodness! Both were absolutely divine! Probably the best crepe dishes we’ve ever had anywhere! We are definitely going to be back to give their other offerings a try!

I must confess that I hesitated to post this review because I’d hate to see the place become so busy that my wife & I can no longer get a table when we go there. But the food is so delicious, the service so friendly, and the atmosphere so unique & delightful that it would almost be a sin not to tell others about it! To update based on business' response their site was not updated to state they no longer did delivery so I was still okay to go ahead, them dropping it off did me no favors. If this custom cake is something you don't do and are not comfortable with it don't take on the request, I will go elsewhere if it's that much of a hassle. Needless to say when businesses fight honest reviews THAT raises red flags. NOTE: I added the 2 candle, the mermaid topper and the 'Happy Birthday' topper and also never mentioned ANYTHING about not supporting certain race driven businesses so no idea why that was even mentioned, especially as a person of colour

Asked for a themed cake and they tried their best for a crepe cake but it wasn't the best. Raspberry flavor crepe cake was mediocre. The thing that bugged me the most was the timing to get the cake. Was supposed to be picked up Thursday at 5pm, was informed it wasn't done and told next day. Was supposed to pick up after work next day, still wasn't done and was offered to drop off for 6pm. Absolutely delicious 😋 and excellent service!! This morning was our first time here and we were impressed. Everyone was very clean, washed their hands a few times throughout the process, hand cut the strawberries 🍓 and took their time to get the orders right. The ice cream was made on-site the day before which we liked and it was amazing. Everything was very fresh (Cannoli crêpe & Nutella strawberries & bananas crêpe and a custom crêpes which was Great!). The whip cream and ice cream were put in separate compostable containers so it wouldn't melt in transit. I love they use compostable containers!
