From the moment I stepped into Grain of Salt, I knew I was in for an exceptional culinary experience. This Indian restaurant, nestled in the heart of Cambridge, Ontario, has quickly claimed the title of serving the best Indian food I've ever had the pleasure of tasting.

My journey through their menu started with their lunch and dinner thalis - an exquisite showcase of variety and flavour. Each dish is a testament to the chef's mastery over traditional Indian cuisine, perfectly balanced to cater to both newcomers and connoisseurs alike. The chicken vindaloo, my personal favourite, is a spicy delight that leaves you craving for more with its perfect blend of heat and flavour. It's not for the faint-hearted but absolutely rewarding for those who dare.

The tandoori chicken is another highlight, marinated to perfection and bursting with flavours that are both complex and comforting. It's evident that there's a dedication to authenticity and quality with every bite. The lamb, tender and succulent, melts in your mouth, accompanied by spices that accentuate its natural flavours rather than overpowering them.

And let's not forget the shrimp - the juiciest I've ever had, cooked just right, retaining all its natural sweetness and complemented by a blend of spices that elevate the dish to new heights.

Grain of Salt doesn't just serve food; they offer an experience that transports you straight to the heart of India with every dish. The ambiance, service, and attention to detail make every visit memorable. Whether you're a local or just passing through Cambridge, Ontario, do yourself a favour and visit Grain of Salt. It's more than just a meal; it's a culinary journey that you...

Grain of Salt is a wonderful restaurant with friendly staff and delicious food. The food is a little overpriced though.

I recommend dining in instead of taking out because their naans/rotis will become cold and rubbery which makes it taste bad. When dining in, the food is piping hot, and splendid! I do not recommend the Vegetable Vindaloo, it is extremely spicy. The Malai Kofta is amazing, mild in spice, and goes well with all the breads/rices. All the side dishes come with an option of either roti or rice so don't order too much! As you can see, we ordered a Daal Makhani, Malai Kofta, with which we ordered an Onion Kulcha and a Plain Naan. Other than that, we ordered a Vegetable Biryani which came with Raita.

The ambience is nice and the cleanliness is okay. The main restaurant is clean and so are the plates, cutlery and dishes in which your food is being served. However the glasses/cups are sometimes dirty. The bathrooms could be neater. For example, in the women’s bathroom, there is no hand wash. The walls are full of scratches, and the garbage bin is right in between the toilet and the sink. It is quite cramped and the garbage bin is always overflowing with paper towels, which are sometimes on the toilet and in the sink.

The staff is very nice, helpful and friendly. If you have children, then they can just ask the staff for a lollipop and they'll give one to them for free and of their chosen flavor, only if you are dining in.

In conclusion, Grain of Salt is a nice restaurant that deserves 3 stars. Enjoy your...

Grain of Salt Indian Cuisine: A Culinary Gem Worth Visiting!

If you're searching for authentic Indian flavors served with warmth and care, Grain of Salt Indian Cuisine is an absolute must-visit. From start to finish, the dining experience here is a delightful journey through the rich and diverse tastes of India.

We began with a selection of appetizers, including crispy Pakoras, flavorful Manchurian, and perfectly spiced Paneer Tikkas. Each dish was accompanied by a variety of fresh chutneys that elevated the flavors to a whole new level.

The main course was equally impressive, featuring traditional dishes like Maratha Curry, creamy Dal, and the indulgent Paneer Curry. These paired perfectly with a variety of breads, from soft Rotis to the aromatic Garlic Naans all served hot and fresh.

What truly stole the show, however, was the chai—rich, aromatic, and perfectly brewed. It was the perfect way to round off an exceptional meal.

The ambiance of the restaurant is inviting, and the staff are attentive and welcoming, ensuring you feel like a valued guest throughout your visit. Whether you're a connoisseur of Indian cuisine or trying it for the first time, Grain of Salt offers a dining experience you won’t forget.

If you're in the mood for authentic Indian flavors, this restaurant should be at the top of your list. Highly...

Have been coming to this Indian restaurant for ages. This was one of the oldest Indian restaurants in the KWC area with the most authentic tasting Indian food. Although there are a lot of Indian places close to Kitchener area now, I sometimes would still go all the way to Cambridge to eat at this place. I love their Lunch Special Thali (very budget-friendly) where you get to choose the ‘main’ curry and it comes along with some standard items in the plate. I have tried all of their non-vegetarian/seafood curries at some point and they all taste great but I wish they would marinate their chicken to make it as flavourful as the curry. Regardless, love the food here and will keep coming back for it. We also tried their Grain of Salt Special which is a combination platter of their tandoor appetizers. As always, the food is great. Had 1 negative take-out experience though - They once gave us Paneer instead of requested Chicken item but we found this when we got home. We called the restaurant and instead of being apologetic about their mistake or trying to make it right, they asked me to come next time to adjust the $2 difference. I’ve come across a lot of different restaurants who would go an extra mile to correct a mistake like this but the management here doesn’t care too much on that front.
