When I moved the Cambridge and discovered Zoup I was so ecstatic, it was so delicious and the staff were friendly, the hours were understandable, and selection was always changing. Around Christmas time we noticed it was closed and were worried that it wouldn’t be the same depending on what was happening. Sadly, when it reopened it definitely was not the same Zoup we loved. All new staff, that didn’t have the slightest bit of knowledge on the soups and how the restaurant worked. The fountain machine was broken. No music playing. It was a very awkward experience.
We thought we would give them some grace and returned for another visit. Similar issues but there was no soup rotation. The location was dead. The owner must have been at the register since he made an effort to be extra friendly with greetings. We noticed the bread they provided for the soup was cold and stale, butter was not spreadable due to this.
We read the recent reviews and the response from the business seems to be copy and paste type. Despite all of this, we decided to try AGAIN tonight. It’s cold out, lightly snowed and perfect for Zoup! Google says they close at 8pm and I worked until 7pm. We arrived and the whole place was locked up at 7:31pm. We went to the door and a worker answered and said that closing time is 7pm. There was a sticker taped up onto the door with the number 7. I suggested she let the owner know to change the time advertised on Google. She argued and said “no on Google it will say 7pm”. I respond No, it’s 8pm and show her on my iPhone. She then says “is that Cambridge?”….
We left and went to our consistently delicious, friendly, amazing spot, Lazeez. Really disappointed with how this business has changed. We won’t be returning and will be suggesting others eat elsewhere. I really wish Dave would return so we don’t have to see Zoup leave the...
Read moreNot the experience I was expecting when I walked into Zoup today. I thought maybe it was a one off and tried to be patient and understanding, but the change in reviews after new ownership is wild. It sucks to see your go-to soup spot existing in stark contrast to what it used to be.
For the last few years, I was happy to see the Cambridge location thriving after all other local ones closed. The staff were friendly and we were always greeted on entry.
Today, I walked in and all of the familiar staff were gone, and with that went any respect and efficiency. I was ignored at the sample counter. I watched as one staff member berated two staff at the soup counter for empty pots saying “Why didn’t you tell me? We DON’T make mistakes!” Everyone looked a little lost as to what their roles were. It would seem there was minimal training before re-opening.
The soft drink machine was broken. The other machine had a sticky note on it about leaks.
I was in the store for 40 minutes for take out. This is longer than most people’s lunch breaks, not including eating and driving. I fail to understand how previously, 2-3 staff could have me sampling, order put in, and food ready in under 10 minutes at a busy time, and now 7-8 staff are struggling, especially for food that is already prepared.
This shop had a huge customer base of regulars and was always bustling. Unfortunately, this change for the worse will be the downfall of this Zoup location, if it things...
Read moreIf you asked me to review a year ago it would have been five stars, since then a lot has changed and it’s going downhill. I came in today to an extremely lack luster lineup, it seems they are putting less thought into soup selection as there was zero spicy options on the menu. Usually there are a couple options. I tried both the curry red pepper soup and the chicken and chorizo, the meat tasted extremely bland and next to no taste in the broth either. I ended up going with loaded chicken pot pie, a usual staple but they aren’t doing the breading topping anymore and overall the service has gone down hill (no smile, no one waiting on people in line so you have to yell out to get someone, employees seem annoyed to deal with customers at the counter would rather prepare online orders). Overall the food is still decent, service has taken a hit and the selection isn’t as good as it used to be. Hope things turn around because I loved this place.
Updated review of chicken pot pie soup: 6/10 I made mention of not having bread crumbs anymore and they found some, with the bread crumbs it makes it a decent soup but still on the bland side.
Review of chicken pot pie soup: 4/10 - Somewhat bland The chicken pot pie soup was bland, needed lots of extra salt and pepper to make it work. Chicken tastes simply boiled out, nothing added to add any real taste. Has carrots, peas and corn, without the bread crumbs this soup is...
