Wifey had been following this place on instagram and raving about how awesome everything looked, so we decided to hit it up for date night.
When we walked in, we both really liked the look of it. It had a modern diner aesthetic to it decor wise. Nothing groundbreaking, but a comfy setting for sure.
You just pick a booth and sit down, so we went to the only open booth to find sadly, the tables trays had been collected by the staff, but they for some reason decided to not wipe down the table... that was just plain gross... that said, it seemed super busy and maybe they were short staffed or something. I'm not big on being a chump over little stuff, and they did finally wipe it down after my wife asked for something to wipe it down with, so not the biggest deal in the world.
So then we go and order. I ordered the juicy Lucy on fire, as did my wife. The wait time was reasonable considering the small army of customers that occupied the space (not even exaggerating, about 20 people walked in right after we sat down). They have videos playing constantly about how their fresh burgers are made, how they do their fresh cut fried etc... needless to say, the combination of those videos, and their instagram marketing, had our mouthes watering.
When our burgers came, we simply couldn't wait to dive in, but that's where the problems started.
I myself always start with fries and fresh cut is always delicious, but the large majority of the fries were literally clumped together, not able to be pulled apart which was disappointing at best. In my picture, that bunch that is out of the container beside the burger is one of those literal clumps. All those fries stuck together really took me aback, as it's the result of lazy preparation. Flavour wise, they were about what youd expect, but nothing special or standout like their constant videos and insta posts would make you think.
Now onto the juicy Lucy on fire. I couldn't wait to dive into this after watching their meat get prepped on a screen for 10 minutes. So firstly, their factory sauce was divine. And thank god for that, because their Juicy Lucy, was anything but Juicy. Infact, I'd say it was in the top 3 driest burgers I've ever had. The meat itself had clearly been overworked to the point where the texture was more akin to a sausage patty, rather than a burger. Wife's burger was exactly the same in poor texture and dryness.
To summarize for those who didnt read all that:
Pros Good atmosphere Smart marketing team Amazing special sauce (factory sauce) Reasonable wait time
Cons Dirty table Lazy fry preparation Burger was ridiculously dry, even though it had "Juicy" in the title Burger meat was overworked, giving an incredibly undesirable texture
I think that when the only food related "pro" is a condiment, theres a problem, and I really hope for the sake of this business my experience was a one off. I wouldn't necessarily avoid and not give burger factory another go if a friend really wanted to check it out, but I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to try a round 2. They simply didnt live up...
Read moreI went in with my wife craving for a good burger, but unfortunately we were disappointed with our experience. We waited 30min for 2 burgers, thinking these were going to be the motherload of all burgers, especially since the place only had a handful of other customers.
Once we got our order we got excited since the burgers were a decent size and all nicely wrapped in foil, which means no greasy mess seeping through. I got The Machine and my wife got the Cheesy Lucy, both with beef bacon and hers also had mushrooms. Upon opening up the silver wrapping we were presented by 2 sad looking burgers. Nothing like what they have showing up on the board. Ok, fine. Sometimes just because something looks bland and uninviting it doesn't mean anything. In this case however, the flavors, or lack thereof were as plain as day. It doesn't help that the patties were overcooked and the buns were dry and lacked that nice toasted action. Even the bacon, which is a $2 extra, fell flat on our tastebuds. There was not even a hint of crispyness to it and looked more like a piece of smoked meat, which wouldn't be a bad thing if that's what we ordered.
We were going to try the funnel cake, but by the end of the meal I was so turned off that we decided to just go home. When you pay $30 for 2 less than ordinary burgers, that tends to happen. We might give the place another try in the future and try some of the other offerings, but it will be a long while before that happens. The only thing this place has going for it is that the entire menu is halal, otherwise go to a proper gourmet burger...
Read moreCame across this burger joint on hwy 24 in Cambridge and thought I would give it a try. Initial impression was it looked clean and was adhering to covid protocols. Theme for this place was rustic. Interesting choice of burgers. Fries, drinks and dessert are sold separate. Orders take about 20 minutes depending on how busy they are. 2 this on opposite walls can keep you busy while waiting. Once my order arrived with fries and a can off coke I dug in. Sorry but for the life of me I forgot what I ordered, but suffice to say I came back next day for the same. The burgers are made fresh, toppings appeared fresh. The fries were okay but rather small in portion for my liking but not a game changer. The burger was perfect. Thick, juicy, tasty and cooked enough for that grilled taste one wants. This place is in my top 2 burger spots and I ain't telling if its number 1 or 2. The staff was comprised of what looked like 4 or 5 young Muslim ladies and they chatted amongst themselves as they processed orders. I really admired there work ethic and complimented them on the fine burger I ate. As I mentioned this is in Cambridge within 5 minutes of the 401, malls, strip malls, banks, coffee shops and tons of other amenities. Yeah, some may have had not so good emergence here, but I can say the same for most places I have eaten at. If you have a problem, be nice, explain it and I am sure they will do what they can to make it up to...
