I did read the reviews and this place seems to be worthwhile. Why not we were hungry. So I called and made a reservation for 7pm at the bar as it was the only opening they had. When we arrived we were told that they had no reservation for us. So one of the servers said he would check, within five minutes, one of the hosts said there was a spot available in the basket . Good
The place looks pretty good but wow was it loud. So we sat down waited about ten minutes and then ordered.
Beet salad $16 Lobster roll. $27.99. Really? Fish and chips $19.
Total $62.99 Tax. $9.45 Total $72.55
The salads was served in a large dish. Looked pretty good
The lobster roll had roast potato pieces with skin attacked.
The fish and chips had a much smaller piece of fish than what I saw being served to others. The fries looked interesting as though someone tossed them on the plate from across the room. The plate did have a decent coleslaw, not a lot but more than what I’ve had at other places, and it was pretty good.
The taste The beer batter haddock was very flaky, cooked right but lacking any noticeable flavour. It was missing even the slightest seasoning direct on the fish. But eating with the fried batter did give it some flavour but not enough to classify this fish as great. It was mediocre at best. I added pepper and that was a little better.
The fries were the most criticized item on trip advisor and google reviews. I can see why , these fries were more like packaged previously frozen than hand cut or fresh.. I would agree with some of the reviews that called the fries limp and soggy.
If you cannot get the basic fish and chips right and make it exceptional, then I would not be enticed to try anything else..
The lobster roll, if you can call it that, had no value and was a total waste of money at that price. Small pieces. Little amount, on a hot dog bun? Yeah, a damn hot dog bun. They could have at least tried to make it look like actual bread. this was a lazy meal thrown together by someone too tired or just did not care what went out. Would I recommend this place? If you are looking to have a conversation, go elsewhere. Way too loud. If you want pricey quality food, then go elsewhere, if you just want to go hang out at a bar and get fed expensive bar food that will leave you underwhelmed and wishing you found the perfect spot to enjoy as a tourist, this is not the place for you.
Service by Jude was basic, nothing special just direct to the point. Take the order serve the order, collect for the order. But he was doing both bartending and service,
For a tourist looking for great food and comfortable setting this is not the place, however for a local who connects with friends at their favourite local spot.. it’s the...
Read moreHubby and I went out to eat here a week ago. It was full but they offered us a hightop table at the back which we took. Now I see why she asked us if that would be ok. It's right by a post, by the kitchen and bathroom and the traffic beside us made me worry hair etc would fall off the people walking by and land on my food. We shall never know. Waiter was very young and couldn't remember the soup of the day, the desserts, or a few other things and I had to repeat myself every time I spoke to him and I am by no means a quiet person. The live band had not started yet so that was not the issue, but the place was full so...(btw the band was excellent and I really enjoyed them enough to come back for drinks). My soup was tomato and veggies. Bland. Tasted like zero flavor and literally like just hot tomatos and the "veggies" were about 5 little mini slushy chunks. No crackers, bread or butter to go with. I did not eat it. Nice and hot though...i had a pesto aioli club sandwich which was dry chunks of chicken, half a piece of bacon on a bun (I must have overlooked the bun part on menu) and the aioli tasted nothing like pesto. It tasted like old expired miracle whip, and it was so sparce I found it dry. I did eat it as I was very hungry. Hubby didn't like the demi sauce or the gravy at all on his steak. Fries were frozen and tasteless. I got mocha mousse for dessert. It was really good until 6 bites in my teeth hurt from the sugar and I can handle a LOT of mocha, chocolate and sugar. I ate about 1/6th of it and was busting full of sugar. Paid over $80 and no refills on water or pop were offered and we were checked on once the whole meal. Would go back ONLY for drinks and music. Probably...
Read moreWe went to PEI for our East Coast long trip from Toronto. Since it’s known for their oysters & mussels those were our targeted food. Our first experience here which was a late lunch was nice. We were seated right away. The server was attentive, courteous & friendly. The dishes we ordered were tasty. The next day we went here again for dinner. Noone was at the reception area so we had to wait for at least 10 minutes. Then we were told by the one who assisted us that she doesn’t know which table to guide us so she asked her colleague. We were seated in a corner table. We waited for another 10 minutes then a guy came out who was talking like he was in a hurry. He asked for our drinks, then he delivered them after 10 minutes. Then we ordered their oysters which he said it will take awhile since there’s a queue. We said it’s fine. It took at least 30 minutes before the oysters came. He didn’t bother asking for our other orders. He just left. After waiting for almost another 30 minutes, we called another server if she can get our orders so she called the guy. The guy then came and said “well my friend (tapping my husband at the back) are we ready to order?” We found the service that day very disappointing. It was the exact opposite of our first impression. We also found the guy very dismissive & fresh if I may say so. Someone was even sweeping the floor during dinner time which I found unusual unless there was a...
